Is it wrong to celebrate 'Christmas'?

Bringing this post over from another thread and making it the opening post here:

I do understand though that some do not want to be bothered with facts concerning Christmas which is between you and God if pagan practices leave an open door to ol slewfoot to cause trouble for those engaged...

FT, you have mentioned having grandkids, does that mean that you never put up a Christmas tree for them or your kids to enjoy? I know some folk will try to use this passage in an effort to show its unbiblical:

    Jeremiah 10
3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.
4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.

If a person puts up a tree to worship it, then it's wrong. I hate putting up the tree, much less worship it. It's pretty and all that, but certainly not the center of my season's worship. We tried doing Christmas without a tree, but hubby likes to have it so it's all his job. We also tried having Christmas without gifts, but it didn't work out so well. So we do some gifts but have cut way back.

But gift giving should not be considered pagan, since the wise men brought Jesus gifts.

Can't stand Santa, either. We did not have Santa come to our house after we were saved.

Christmas is Jesus and Jesus only.

The three wise men were supposedly Zoroastrian magicians. I know, now I've spoiled that one too. I'm sure they meant well, whatever they really were.

    Paul's answer:

One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. The one who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord. The one who eats, eats in honor of the Lord, since he gives thanks to God, while the one who abstains, abstains in honor of the Lord and gives thanks to God. For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's. For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living.

Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God (Romans 14:5-10)

Would that make their gifts less meaningful? God moved on non-Jewish hearts to seek out the King of Kings and they brought gifts.

Of course not. I just wonder what they did afterwards.

They worshiped the child then turned around and went home, the Bible says, careful to not tell Herod anything.

    Maybe they stopped for turkey.

Really not sure what you're getting at.
