Go to your Strong's and keep two things in mind because I know you like to study words and their varied usage to get to the heart of a passage..

    1. When the scriptures were written the Hebrew language had no scientific terminology that compared to the advanced science of today.
    2. There are two Hebrew words and neither are conclusively 'sphere'..in fact from the quick search I did they are both used interchangeably.
    3. This I went to last night to disprove this and could not...Joshua spoke to the sun and the moon and commanded them to stand still...
From the earliest passage on the sun there are MANY that depict the sun 'rising' 'setting' 'moving'.

So in order to find a legitimate and conclusive argument I came out here..because I have not found one yet..and in order, IMHO, to do that I have to take a neutral position of possibility...that is the only way to be objective and I believe objectivity is the only way to clearly prove or disprove anything..
If we start twisting the verse based on such things as the meaning of the words involved, context, the entirety of the Bible etc we may arrive at the interpretation that the four corners were specific locations that were thought to be far away from the land of Israel and its immediate surroundings and that the term "the four corners of the world" was used about "the entire world" when not discussing each specific "corner".

Why do you keep saying 'twisting'.

What you seem to be describing as the formula for TWISTING I view as the formula for accurate interpretation...

Thought...some DISCOUNT the Bible because of what it appears to say so Christians then work hard at proving it does not say that...to make it palatable.

WHAT IF...we are trying so hard to disprove their interpretation we are actually changing it ourselves?
We have probably all seen this done...many today in the 'love' movement at least won't preach from the OT and at worst discount the authenticity of the OT all together because it offends their take on love.

WHAT IF...science is delusional? Again I point to evolution and how it is still a theory but is being taught in schools along with BIG BANG and excluding creationism.

I was shocked and surprised to actually hear anyone think out of this box...a little concerned about their sanity...and then remembered that we are to test all things...not just dismiss them with a blanket acceptance of what we have been taught..

Anyway...please post anything you may run across that might apply..maybe we can just keep this active like an information drop box..

    For fun.

I agree. That's why I'm not a Calvinist and an adherant of about 1000 different stupid cults and assorted doctrines in addition.

People have been into space. How have they not discovered that the earth is flat?

The most commonly accepted explanation of this is that the space agencies of the world are involved in a conspiracy faking space travel and exploration. This likely began during the Cold War's 'Space Race', in which the U.S.S.R and USA were obsessed with beating each other into space to the point that each faked their accomplishments in an attempt to keep pace with the others supposed achievements. However, since the end of the Cold War, the conspiracy is most likely motivated by greed rather than political gains. Thus opening up a tremendous amounts of funds to embezzle as it only takes a fraction of the total budget to fake space travel.

In light of the above, please note that we are not suggesting that space agencies are aware that the earth is flat and actively covering the fact up. They depict the earth as being round simply because that is what they expect it to be.

There are many pictures on the internet and in other media depicting the earth as being round. Why do these not disprove flat earth theory?

In general, we at the Flat Earth Society do not lend much credibility to photographic evidence. It is too easily manipulated and altered. Many of the videos posted here to "prove a round earth" by showing curvature will show no curvature or even convex curvature at parts. The sources are so inaccurate it's difficult to build an argument on them in either case. Furthermore, barrel distortion and other quirks of modern cameras will cause a picture to distort with little or no apparent altercation; especially without references within the picture. Photographs are also prone to distortion when taken through the bent glass of a pressurized cabin as well as atmospheric conditions on the outside. With this litany of problems, it's easy to see why photographic evidence is not to be trusted.

It's also worth noting that if a person were to look down at the earth from high above, they would expect to see a circular shape where the sun's spotlight was shining. This explains why high altitude photographs are generally curved to produce the illusion of a round horizon.
    wow

If the earth were flat, ships wouldn't be able to circumnavigate the earth. They would just start off in a direction on the flat plane and never be seen again. Many foolish conclusions could then be made. Do they eventually run into a wall, say where a flat map ends?

The Vikings thought the Midgard-worm was lurking out there, having encircled the Earth and taken hold of its own tail. So I suppose they run into that and have to head back again rather than just falling off the edges. Note that "flat Earth" allows for the Earth being round, it doesn't have to be rectangular. But I must admit that during my journeys on five continents and 76 countries I have never encountered either. Maybe it's out in the ocean west of California, I haven't been there yet.

You know, even as I read their arguments it's hard for me to believe they actually believe that. Nobody is that stupid. I know there's a lot of stupid people, but not THAT stupid....right?

Who knows, maybe some do believe that or try to. They may have their reasons. Some people believe that God put dinosaur bones in the ground to test our faith. Which is a misunderstanding of anything having to do with the Bible but people some times have their reasons.
