Thread: Will everyone be equal in heaven?

Will everyone be equal in heaven?

Use scripture in your answer either way, and if you think we won't be, in what ways will we differ?

Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance? But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, who will render to each person according to his deeds: to those who by perseverance in doing good seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life; but to those who are selfishly ambitious and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, wrath and indignation. There will be tribulation and distress for every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek, but glory and honor and peace to everyone who does good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For there is no partiality with God.

Everyone will be equal as sons and daughters through the blood of Christ as God loves all equally.
Yet he also will honour those who lived a more faithful life in serving him on earth
Jesus mentioned differing rewards in his parables

Daniel 12:1 “At that time Michael shall stand up,
    The great prince who stands*watch*over the sons of your people;
And there shall be a time of trouble,
Such as never was since there was a nation,
    Even*to that time.
And at that time your people shall be delivered,
Every one who is found written in the book.
2*And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake,
    Some to everlasting life,
    Some to shame*and*everlasting contempt.
3 Those who are wise shall*shine*Like the brightness of the firmament, And those who turn many to righteousness Like the stars*forever and ever.

Here it is...least and greatest and why:

    Matthew 5
19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

I think the question is worded somewhat narrowly. Jesus make it pretty clear that the kingdom of heaven is a Reward System. The composite of verses in the NT show pretty good evidence that there will be some realizable honor, stuff, position or ???? that we will receive in Heaven (some may be here as well). In this wide sense there will be many rewards that we can not rule-out as things that we will continually enjoy in Heaven.

Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven” (Matthew 5:11–12)

His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much (note: indicates a proportionality). Enter into the joy of your master.’ (Matt 25:21)

If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward (1 Cor 13:12-14)

Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. (Matt 5:17-19)

As John Bevere says, we should be trying to get "all the rewards we can" while here on earth.

If we do something in order to get a reward for it, doesnt that qualify as doing it with the wrong motivation ? Lets say I try and succeed with getting people saved in order that I may get a reward for it in heaven and not because I want to see those people alive and well in heaven. Does that qualify for a reward, trying to get a reward ?

    That's a fair question, Colonel.
We are talking about a SEGMENT of truth that is, of course, properly positioned in the overall Scriptural truths.

When I heard John Bevere talk about rewards, it was in context of being secondary to these primary truths and motivations. So the narrative would go kinda like this: It starts out with God. He loves us, saves us, empowers us. We, in turn respond by loving him (and our neighbor), wanting to please him and obeying him. And by the way there are rewards. It was Jesus that told us there are rewards - why would he say these things if he didn't want to consider that?

There are various encouragements (with positive results mentioned) in the Scriptures to hang in there and operate in Kingdom excellence, such as the Beatitudes. I'll take every encouragement I can get!

Id say getting people saved is more important than rewards. They are also more valuable than rewards. Id rather meet spiritual children in heaven and have no rewards than get rewards for being obedient and seeing no spiritual children in heaven.
