According to the verse I quoted from 2 Tim, those who endure will also reign. Overcome is one thing but endure is generally taken to mean enduring in the faith to the end. Not enduring is jumping boat before it reaches the harbor. The context of the passage the verse is in, is salvation.

The Mormons believe they get a new planet to rule over....there could be 'some' truth to that in eternity

Obviously disagree with their general doctrines

The universe rolled up like a blanket then a new heaven and earth to replace them, sounds like sun, moon, stars. Nothing to do with Mormonism.

That does not necessarily mean the existing universe disappears...The earth is the same earth but it is transformed

2 Peter 3 seems to indicate that the current heavens and earth are reserved for fire and then there will be new heavens and a new earth.

Yes, but recall that one of my points is that we have to consider the whole of scripture. Without looking up the Hebrew of 2 Tim, I'm not certain it's all that important, considering everything else I'm saying. Besides, it could be merely emphasizing what I'm saying.

The entire context of Revelation and Jesus speaking to the Church really boils down to the fact that Jesus is imploring them to consider their strengths and weaknesses. So He specifically tells them what their weaknesses are, then he actually explains to them WHY they should overcome the very thing He just rebuked them about. He's saying, "Hey, you have really fallen short here, but if you overcome this, here is an amazing thing I have for you in the next age."

But let's consider another point I made.

Someone who has real faith, but really never makes any attempt to truly die to self, and live their lives will make it to heaven. But remember....and this is vitally important. It would go against God's justice and nature to put that person in charge of ruling over something because they were not motivated enough IN THIS LIFE with love for Jesus as a primary motivation, to truly live for Him. It would literally go against His very own Words! So while Jesus loves them, welcomes them to heaven, and their faith is counted as absolutely and wholly precious, they went no further. Like I said, there is no magic wand that whips people into some sort of super saint when they go to heaven. Everything that we are and have done for Christ in this age, is merely preparation for the next age. All this life is, is a test based on how deeply we go in love for Christ, His ways, and His people. How did we steward the things He has freely given us?

That is why scripture is packed full of admonishments, parables, warnings, etc.....in this regard.

And again, to emphasize. This literally has nothing to do with works or trying to gain rewards at all. As I said, because God's Kingdom is a kingdom of love, then what one does with a pure heart proves your love for Jesus. It's all quite brilliant when you think about it. Love is advanced, the gospel is advanced, and all the while, the lover of Jesus is growing in the knowledge of Him and preparing for the next age. And justice is served.

    Brilliant.

What if one doesn't want to rule ?

We will all have the nature of Christ and nothing else, that should help.

Colonel, I only named that one area as an example.

You're very smart, but you're not thinking this through.

Whatever you do on earth will reflect your gifting, and how you were created. Get it now? You won't be administrator extraordinaire here, and then all of a sudden, not have that gift in a perfect setting with no sin present. There will be PLENTY to do when administrating the creation of a perfect planet, so rest assured, you'll be assigned to do precisely and exactly what your true self, created in the image and likeness of God, was created to do, whatever that is.

I will at any rate have the nature of Christ and only that and be a super saint for eternity, whatever it is that I do. Salvation is full, I will be as super as I can be.
