    At any range over 10 feet a polar bear is NOT preferable.

    But it's much more easy NOT to get in their way than it is with all those snakes and spiders and what have you.

    To us encountering a polar bear requires travelling 2000 miles North to Svalbard or waiting on the shore somewhere in Finnmark for the once-in-a-decade appearance of a stray. Getting bitten by a poisonous snake is more likely in Southern Norway..
