What would Jesus expect us to do?
Well, in Foxe's book of martyrs there is an account of one of the reformer's daughters being held and threatened lest he denounce his stance. He basically told her that they would be together soon because to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
Jesus told us not to fear him who can kill the body and then do nothing more to us, but to fear Him who, after killing the body can destroy the soul in hell.
I remain conflicted about this yet. Not something I would want to be wrong about.

The death of Stephen is an example of this.
I want to be convinced that it is o.k. with the Lord to use a weapon for self defense or the defense of others, but only find scriptures supporting military and law enforcement, and not the individual believer so far. I cannot think of any teachings of Jesus or the apostles that tell us it is o.k. to kill someone in self defense.

That doesn't address a criminal breaking into the home not in regard to 'renouncing the faith'.
A rapist enters a home and attacks a woman to rape her. She manages to grab a gun or a knife - does she allow herself to be raped or does she shoot/stab the man and kill him
BTW 25 years ago this happened in our city and my wife knew who this lady was but sadly she was also murdered and left behind a devastated husband, children, family etc
The terrible suffering of the innocent family left behind was far worse than if she killed this evil man in self defense
Does God say do nothing while a rape/murder of innocent people is being enacted by wicked people????

There are plenty of real life scenarios the scriptures do not specifically address.
If a person is attempting to murder another person then it is LOVE that intervenes to protect the innocent person from the evil person. It is not love to stand by and do nothing.
Every individual believer as well as secular people are subject to the governing laws per Romans 13. If the law states that a person can defend themself then God honours that law and that is NT.

O.K. This guy makes a good case for the self defense position with scripture. Now I think I would be more at ease getting my CCP.
Of course, you guys were helpful also!
