    Is Christmas pagan?

I love Christmas, I celebrate it, but I have a few friends who think it's pagan, of the devil, we shouldn't have any part of it etc.

There's a scripture in Jeremiah that talks about evil people cutting down a tree, decorating it with ornaments and worshiping it.. they refer to this scripture to prove it's a pagan practice.

Any comments or opinions on this? Or your take?

    Yeah, don't worship the tree!

Otherwise I think you are safe.

Easter is pagan. The Resurrection of Jesus Christ is not. Yet, in this day we strain at gnats and swallow camels on steroids. Some of the ones that revile these traditional seasons are hypocrites with hearts far from what we celebrate. Don't get me started.

As an aside, this subject reminds me of the early forum days 15yrs ago.

This season I've been wrestling with the OP in prayer and seeking God. There is the scripture in Jeremiah, yes, but there is also the scripture that tells us to remember His death, and no scripture that says to remember His birth. I have no answers after praying and asking for revelation. To some it may seem clear but not to me. I have cut way back on decorating this year and Scott and I are exchanging one present.

(editted to add: I'm trying to Grinch on anyone, just being real honest that I'm searching... but still celebrating.)

I love Christmas. I celebrate that God has send his son as a saviour of the whole world. Nobody is taking that from me.
Today my son-in-law took the stable up and now I will add all the figures I have made myself. The grandkids love the nativity scene.
For me it is nice to decorate for Jesus Birthday, I love Christmas carols, I love to write Christmas cards, ...
It is up to me how I do Christmas, but I do not let some most-holiest spoil this wonderful time of appreciation of Gods greatest gift.

I may not like the way Christmas has become a business, but I do it my way with a joyful heart

I was raised not to over do the commercial side of Christmas, so I've always been out of step with society. We always celebrated though. Dh and I haven't exchanged gifts for years and we just give the dd and family each a small cash gift. Unless folks are impoverished, they buy what they want or need as they go along. We also do for the needy.

Without a birth, there wouldn't have been a death. I don't "hear" any hearts here on the forum who would be making celebrations a pagan thing of remembering Jesus birth.

    Be blessed!

The best way to destroy the old pagan festival is to make Jesus the Lord over that day and eat and celebrate his goodness. The devil doesn't like that.

It's only pagan if you allow it to be pagan.

Every day belongs to God the creator

    EXACTLY!

Every day I wake up, I acknowledge, and am thankful for Jesus' birth, death, and resurrection in my life - Not just at Christmas or Easter
