    Holy Water

Something I never really gave much thought to before, but in light of a couple things I am wondering where this doctrine of Holy Water came from?

The Catholics of course claim to use holy water. There is a new song out by WTK called Holy Water. I love the style and layout of the song, but it made me start wondering. Then there are certain ministers doing deliverance using what they call Holy Water in a spray bottle and spraying it on the person being delivered while commanding the demons to come out.

Thing is, I cannot think of a single scripture pointing towards Holy Water. Can any of you?

One scripture I found on a Catholic website: Num. 5:17

the priest shall take holy water in an earthen vessel and take some of the dust that is on the floor of the tabernacle and put it into the water.

The use of holy water points to the laver that was in the temple and was a ritual to produce cleanliness before God. We know, of course, that the things in tabernacle/temple were types and shadows of what was to come in Christ, not something to be done now. Catholics have only replaced the Law with rituals and forms that have no power.

The closest we can get in the NT is probably the following :

Heb 10:19 Therefore, brethren, having boldness[f] to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, 21 and having a High Priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.

I'm not sure what it's supposed to mean, does anyone know ?

Yeah, to me all the pomp and circumstance of Catholicism looks exactly like a modernized version of OT Judaism.

I suppose it would be irreverent of me to take this opportunity to post that old riddle:

    Q. How do you make holy water?

    A. You boil the hell out of it.
