Another fun fact, Catholics do not actually take wine at their communion, just the wafer. The only one drinking the wine is the priest.
    Well that's convenient....

I remember being in the Philippines during the Hainan Typhoon relief. We were with the Philippines Armed Forces staying at a Catholic church. The priest at the living quarters offered me a beer, and I turned him down as a matter of practice, and kept moving past.

Later I realized, that I should have at least sat with him at the table and acted more graciously that he was being friendly in the way he knew how. I placed too much emphasis on "turning down that drink" when I should have focused more on diplomacy.

You could have drunk a little bit of the beer or asked for a soda. Sipping vodka with friendly Russians is perhaps going a bit far, even when they don't seem like the drunken type. One beer is more like refreshment to most people.

Not always. When I was stationed down south in the military in my younger days I went to a friend's house to do some partying. They had mixed Hawaiian Punch with Everclear (190 proof PGA). It tasted like Hawaiian punch, and a short while later it did just that; punched me hard!
I was horribly drunk from that stuff.

I knew I was drinking alcohol, but you couldn't really taste it.

I remember my brother talking about fruit punch with everclear at college mixers. Basically, they would fill the punch bowl with fruit and juice then cover it in everclear. Drinking it was like having a beer, but if you ate the grapefruit, you'd go blind!

Wow...that is so true of many of I I think...caring more about our Christian protocol than the person....sad but true. Thank you for sharing that....

    Ephesians 5:17-18
17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.
18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit,
Most often "sipping saints are slipping saints."

Christians who claim to only drink on special occasions or just every now and then, usually wind up getting caught up in things they never intended. Someone once said, "sin will always take you farther than you want to go."

I never was much of a drinker, hated the taste of beer and if I drank at all during my teeny bopper days I went with fruity mixed drinks. Even tho I had a low tolerance the only time I ever got drunk was at an Uncle's birthday party.

A cousin was making us screwdrivers with just a smidgen of vodka but as the night went on apparently she kept increasing the amount. The latter part of the night was just a fuzzy memory and the next morning I knew what a hangover felt like. So yeah, you can accidentally get drunk.

As to the Everclear, I wasn't familiar with it so i googled it...apparently sales of the 190-proof are now banned in many areas of the country including Michigan:
