    Near Death Experiences

What do you think about NDEs (near death experiences)? Real, fake, or just someone's imagination? Consider that the Word teaches that we are to die ONCE and then comes the judgment. Also consider the words of Paul in 2 Corinthians 12:

I must go on boasting. Although there is nothing to be gained, I will go on to visions and revelations from the Lord. I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven. Whether it was in the body or out of the body I do not know—God knows. And I know that this man—whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, but God knows—was caught up to paradise and heard inexpressible things, things that no one is permitted to tell.

Was Paul's experience anything like an NDE? If Paul was not permitted to tell what he saw, why should anyone else? For the record, I met a man who had an NDE and he was very convincing and said nothing that I perceived as unscriptural.

Have you had an NDE? What do you think about them?

Some are thinking that this experience happened during the following account in Acts:

Acts 14:18-20New King James Version (NKJV)

18 And with these sayings they could scarcely restrain the multitudes from sacrificing to them.
    Stoning, Escape to Derbe

19 Then Jews from Antioch and Iconium came there; and having persuaded the multitudes, they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, supposing him to be dead. 20 However, when the disciples gathered around him, he rose up and went into the city. And the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe.

Whatever they say when they get back must be judged by what God inspired the Holy Spirit to have men write down in God's Book.

I've heard some of the testimonies that contained info that was not scriptural, so that person was just listening to the devil.

God put what mankind actually needs to know in His Book... sure there is an infinite amount of info to be learned later (God Himself is never ending), but apparently He has decided that we don't need to know everything while we're on this side of glory

I believe that the events of the dead being raised in the NT would be the same thing as someone dying today and coming back.

Paul not being permitted to tell may have been due to what HE saw and was told...not sure we can say that means no one can tell what they saw...

I do tend to put such testimonies on the 'I don't know' burner and ask God to show me what I need to know..I do weigh them with what we have in scripture...but don't embrace them at the same level of belief that I do the prophetic and scripture..

I believe many are real some may be the drugs

I read one recently where everything seemed good and he became a 'believer' but the more I read the more new agey it sounded and I believe its possible that demons can give people close to death a demonic NDE and they are deceived into thinking it was from God

I think they're real. Ultimately we do die once, but the Bible has people being raised from the dead. So that scripture doesn't mean that one can't die and come back to life.

And Paul's experience was directly related to revelation, etc, from Jesus. Sounds like he was told not to tell. And Paul's wasn't an NDE in my opinion. He was caught up into heaven or saw it in a vision.

Dr Maurice S. Rawlings did a video for TBN called "To Hell And Back" that you can find on the internet with several people who died and went to hell and came back. It's about an hour or so long. Very powerful. I always thought it would be a good evangelistic tool to give sinners the DVD and let them watch it.

There were dead raised in the OT.

Jesus raised people from the dead.

There's at least one raised from the dead in the NT.

Many of the saints came back to life on the death of Jesus.

What of what they may have said did God put in Scripture? Nothing.

Which I guess is as much as we need to know.

Some experiences I tend to believe. The more grandiose they become, not so much.

And those had been dead for years. Well, at least some of them. "It is appointed unto man once to die..." doesn't negate that people are raised from the dead.
