I am going to do this at a small church about an hour from my house this coming Sunday. As I was thinking about this message on the way to work this morning, I got a picture of a husband handing his wife a present and her handing it back and saying "No thanks, don't want it" to him. I will probably use that as an illustration this Sunday.

That is what a huge portion of the church has done today. "No thanks, I don't want your gift" or "I don't want that, it's from the devil!" How would you as a husband or wife feel if this happened in your marriage?

And yet, many Christians have done just that. And I ask, if Jesus told His first disciples to wait a few days for this so that they would receive power to be His witnesses, how dare we in a world 2000 years darker believe that we can really be His witnesses without the power that He said we need?

This is having a form of godliness but denying the power. And that is where the foolish virgins are at today. The church has been awakened, yet only some of them have the oil. What are we to do about it?

We are to become true disciples of Jesus!!!
"Make disciples of every nation, teaching them to observe all the things that I have commanded you." One of those things that Jesus commanded was to wait for the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
From a minister I highly respect and know personally, this was spoken to him by the Holy Spirit one time:

But as the Pharisees of old rejected My Son Who came to reveal Me, so has My body neglected My Spirit Who has come to reveal the Son. Neglect not your communion with the Helper!

What does that mean, hobbies ?

Did she bring that up? I missed that.

Definitely before the day of Pentecost. Redemption was completed. Jesus breathed on them and they at least received a measure of the Holy Spirit. Before they were in fear, then they went with joy to Jerusalem to the upper room, already manifesting the fruit of joy. Their salvation and baptism in the Holy Spirit were two separate experiences. No doubt in my mind at least they were born again before the day of Pentecost.

She talks about Jesus' upper room speech, Mary being counted as blessed. The new birth became available with the resurrection, naturally. Jesus breathed the Spirit on them on the day of his resurrection, John 20:22 or so.

Yeah, that is very similar to what I talked about earlier in this thread. Jesus gets to be in heaven but not around them by his Holy Spirit.

Remind them that praying in the Spirit includes encrypted speech the devil cannot understand...

And, when someone objects to praying in the Spirit it's always good to remind them the Word says to forbid not to pray in tongues (1 Corinthians 14:39) and remind them that not praying in the Spirit enables satan to hear everything they say to God cause he knows all languages except the language of the Holy Spirit.

That's kinda like the defensive team always getting to hear in plain english what play the offense is going to run so they can effectively prepare to oppose the play.

The devil is being crushed under our feet, it doesn't matter if he understands what we are saying or not. He's already a defeated enemy and anyone who serves him willingly will share in his fate.

Yes, a renown Georgia pastor stated that he asked for the Spirit baptism IF IT WAS God's will and when he was not filled that meant it was not His will...

Anything you do for recreation, hobbies, sports, dancing...whatever...make sure your conscience is approving...and your not setting a bad witness.
