Thread: God's "rights"

    God's "rights"

Found this today, what do you think?

God has a right to put His wrath and His judgment and His justice and His fury on display to His own glory as much as He has a right to put His mercy and His grace on display to His own glory

I believe He is God. He can do whatever He chooses to do.

In theory sounds ok but the person who came up with that quote wouldn't be agreeing if they were the receiver of Gods fury and wrath

The thing about 'God's fury and wrath' is that if He ever displays it, it is not indiscriminate and without merit. Many times you will hear people say, "God is a God of love, but he's also a God of judgment and wrath" as if His judgment and wrath were in opposition to His love. It is not. His judgment and wrath is just another facet, a modification of His love. The basis for doing it is love. Even though we may not understand how the motivation of a particular act by God could be love, He understands it.

For instance, say someone breaks into my house and threatens to kill my family, so I exercise my 'judgment and wrath' on the person. That is not in opposition to my love, the motivation of it IS love, love for my family to protect them. Same with God. His judgment and wrath extend from His love. S

So He never exercises it apart from His character. His choice to do it will always be in line with His character.

The Bible specifically condemns favoritism in both the OT and the NT so we know what his character is not like.

I believe He is God. He can do whatever He chooses to do.
Actually, God cannot do just whatever He wants to do... He WILL do what He SAID He will do and what He says He WILL NOT do simply because, it's impossible for God to lie.

He has placed His Word above His name (Psalm 138:2), so He will never go against what He says in His Word lest He be found to be a liar... which is not even possible because He said it was impossible.

So, when we say "All things are possible with God", that really needs to be followed by "except lying"

Lots, and lots of Christians don't understand this.

    The Bible specifically condemns favoritism
I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion (Romans 9:15, Exodus 33:19)

Some that are in opposition to God, are in danger of not receiving HIs mercy... simply because they are in agreement with satan in being opposed to God's ways of being and doing right.

That's a dangerous place to be:

    Romans 1:28
    And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

The thing about 'God's fury and wrath' is that if He ever displays it, it is not indiscriminate and without merit
    Exactly!

Mankind reaps what He sows. Now way around that.

God revealed His character and His will in His word. As FT and fuego stated He will not deviate from it or show favoritism. To accuse God of an act that is contrary to that revealed character and will is to lie and misrepresent Him.
