This passage has been brought to my mind recently by the Holy Spirit, ever so gently and repeatedly over the last couple of weeks.
Just asking for your input.
I know that the whole context in the chapter is important and here is the passage, specifically the underlined part of verse 11...
James 4:11-12 KJV
(11) Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.
(12) There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?
Here are a few of the more expanded translations...
James 4:11-12 AMP.
(11) [My] brethren, do not speak evil about or accuse one another. He that maligns a brother or judges his brother is maligning and criticizing the Law and judging the Law. But if you judge the Law, you are not a practicer of the Law but a censor and judge [of it].
(12) One only is the Lawgiver and Judge Who is able to save and to destroy [the One Who has the absolute power of life and death]. [But you] who are you that [you presume to] pass judgment on your neighbor?
James 4:11-12 Wuest
(11) Stop defaming one another, brethren. He who defames his brother or passes a condemnatory judgment upon his brother , defames the law and passes a condemnatory judgment upon the law. Now, if you pass a condemnatory judgment upon the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge.
(12) One only is a lawgiver and a judge, He who is able to save and to destroy. But as for you, who are you who passes a condemnatory judgment upon your fellow-man?
James 4:11-12 (JMNT)
(11) Brothers, you must not be continuously speaking (blabbing) down against one another. The one habitually speaking down against a brother, and continuously judging (separating; discriminating; deciding about) his brother, is continuously speaking down against law, and he keeps on judging (deciding about) law. Now if you continue judging law, you are not being a performer (a doer) of law, but rather, a judge.
(12) There is One Lawgiver and Judge: the One being continuously able (powerful) to deliver (rescue; heal; save) and to destroy (lose). But you, who are you, the one continuously judging the one near you (the neighbor; the associate)?
