Is A Propehic Word Always A Confimation Of What God Has Told You ?

This is generally true but believing this totally can cause a catastrophe. This was the standard in WOF churches and as taught by Hagin. In reality though someone can sometimes see things the Pastor or other leaders cannot see. It is especially rough on male egos when they realize that God could show another saint of something that they had no idea was going to happen. I do not listen to flakes and nuts but I have been warned several times by dreams of others to me. One dream and it's interpretation probably saved my life. Agabus warned the church to prepare for a world wide famine and the church listened to him and prepared for it. It does not appear that anyone else had this inside information ! Acts 11:28
One of them, named Agabus, stood up and through the Spirit predicted that a severe famine would spread over the entire Roman world. (This happened during the reign of Claudius.)

It's not true, no. People want desperately to believe it's true, but it's not in the Word. Anywhere. It's USUALLY true, but not ALWAYS true.

The Holy Spirit will however always confirm a prophetic word that is genuine to the person that it is given to.

There is a difference between that type of prophetic prediction and a personal prophecy. We are not to be led by the prophets, but by the Spirit of God.

I used to believe the Pastor saw everything so years ago I would not speak up when God was clearly speaking to me to deal with something.

I would not act on anyone's prophecy to me alone. But the implication that God has to tell me first before a prophet gets the Word is just not true. I think this teaching was used to curb the abuses in the prophetic that we have all heard about. If someone gives me something I will drill down with prayer to see if it's from Him or not ?

Seems like Bill Hamon has some teaching on this saying something similar. It was actually debunking the 'put it on a shelf' thing I believe. Maybe not 100% of the time, but something about it. Can't remember a word of what he said though.

Correct. And I know it's true from experience. It's only occurred once or twice that I recall (this scenario), but it has still happened. And the Word that the prophet gave me (that I actually didn't even really receive or believe) came to pass 18 months later.

This is a complete myth, that as LionHeart has stated, has been perpetrated maybe with the right motives, but is not scriptural.

If someone who has a genuine gift gives you a Word that doesn't seem right or fit within your view of yourself, it's best to put it on a shelf with a wait and see attitude, rather than a reject it attitude. I'm not talking about flaky stuff or wackadoo wannabees giving "words", either. I'm talking about established prophetic voices.

A Bible College teacher told one of his students who was an ex drug addict if he persisted in giving his testimony about past sinful lifestyle he would fall into bondage again.
The irony was his testimony was powerful and pastors were asking him to minster by sharing his testimony and people came to hear him.....from the natural viewpoint you would assume that God would be 100% behind this as people were glorifying God for this wonderful salvation

The Teacher picked up in the Spirit that the enemy had gotten in and he was becoming too focused on his past...the student didn't obey and sure enough he succumbed to drugs

This is where the verse is applicable......'My thoughts are not your thoughts and my ways are not your ways'
