    Is this actually a doctrine?

    Quoted from another thread:

We are to be careful who we allow to anoint us and lay hands on for healing.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of any scriptures that say this. Maybe someone can help me out here?

actually i am VERY careful who i allow to lay hands on me and pray for me. the impartation can be witchcraft.... the only thing that comes to mind is balaam n numbers 22. i realize there was no laying on of hands but if u can speak curses over others why not the transferrance by hands?

I know of no scripture for it...and would have no qualms with someone praying for me that I don't know UNLESS the Holy Spirit told me not to..But I also pray while being prayed for so if there was a bad spirit or attempt at satanic impartations I know with confidence that greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world...

I do see the concern others have shared such as people attempting to practice witchcraft but I have to wonder, how often would someone offer to pray for us that we would not have a spiritual relationship with?

I dont think a witchcraft practitioner disguised as a minister can do anything if I stay focused on Jesus and dont open my heart to anything else. They dont acquire special powers just because they touch people. If I know or have reason to believe that Im being fooled then it is different, in any other case it would be fear to think too much about that.

My daughter-in-law had an allergy and a woman who called herself a witch offered to lay hands on her and heal her. But first she asked: "Are you a Christian? If so, it doesn't work." My dil who is a Christian of course wasn't interested in that kind of laying on of hands. Interesting to see what the witch was aware of.

Absolutely! Same here. You are imparting what YOU have when you lay hands (that's the point!)....that's why you lay your hands on others. If I know someone is in open sin or really struggling...heck NO, I would NOT allow them to lay hands on me.

At the Church I attended 17 years ago, I got to the point to where there was NO WAY I would allow either the pastor or his wife to lay hands on me for anything. They were so messed up themselves, there's no telling what would get "imparted" to me.

That's not to say we have to reach a point of perfection before we pray for people (God forbid!), but if someone is in open sin, or extremely immature, or whatever.....nope.

This might sound weird, but I've actually seen flakiness imparted through prayer and laying on of hands....I'm not even kidding.

    BTW, Zeke, I wouldn't say it's a "doctrine", I'd say it's wisdom.
