sorry...when I wrote out the OP it occurred to me that we don't need to be encouraged to love ourselves. It was a bunny trail for me. The REAL issue was the preaching against anything in the Bible that doesn't reflect the Luke statement to love the Lord, love your neighbor, and love yourself.
I have a feeling that he's guiding his church into acceptance of a few homosexual people in the church. The thing is...you can love someone and not agree with what they're doing.
This church is FULL of elderly people, so it's possible they didn't even HEAR what he said.

And that is exactly what Jesus means. Consider another's welfare as you do your own. It's not intended to get into all the 'well does everybody really love themselves or love who they are', etc, etc.

Not necessarily. We certainly have a propensity for self destructive behavior, even when we do or should know better. The human being isn't necessarily a very rational creature, even at that level.

Years ago I heard a sermon about that, as in how you can love others as yourself if you don't really love you...there are people who don't like themselves or who have feelings of low self worth.

good grief people....let's stay on track! What do y'all think about the comment...."preach against anything in the Bible that doesn't support love God, your neighbor and yourself"?
(AJ....I answered your question in the other thread about age. Yes, they normally have a microphone, but their sound system was stolen.)
