The Nails in His Feet
The heel of this ancient Israeli man was likely rather bruised by the nail that became embedded in it.
This is the heel bone of a man who was crucified in ancient Israel. The executioners could not get the bent nail (possibly from a knot in hardwood) out of his foot, when they removed his body from the cross.
Of course, this is not Yeshua's heel bone, but I have posted it to illustrate that his heel was very likely literally bruised, when he hung upon the tree, bearing our sin (bearing in mind that none of his bones were broken in the process).
Although, his heel was very likely bruised, Satan's head may have felt like it was in a vice, after the words, "It is finished!" were spoken by Yeshua from the cross.
The Psalmist prophesied about Yeshua's personal conflict with the devil.
"You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, the young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot."
It is noteworthy that the only Scripture that Satan is recorded in Scripture as reciting, is located juxtaposed to this precise passage, prophesying his demise, under the foot of His divine, Messianic adversar.
This is not the first time this prophecy is stated in Scripture; it is also found in the third chapter of Genesis, where Elohim pronounced it first.
"And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel."
The divinely inspired apostle elsewhere has informed us that this is a very central purpose for the human manifestation of the divine, Messianic, Warrior King.
"The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil."
The writer of Hebrews has stated it this way:
"Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery."
In his revelatory, apocalyptic vision, John saw the eschatological, consummation of the conflict between the Messiah and Satan, at the conclusion of this present age.
"Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, holding in his hand the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain. And he seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years, and threw him into the pit, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he might not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were ended. After that he must be released for a little while."
The photos of the heel of the crucified man and the accompanying pictures indicate the manner in which his heel was likely nailed to his cross.
P.S. Though there is no specific mention of Yeshua's feet being nailed to the cross (only his hands) in the Gospel accounts, it appears that David prophesied it.
"For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have enclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet."
