Revelations 1:18. I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.

I think you are underestimating our Great Lord and Savior.
    Dear Child of God,

I'm not sure if you know that a lost person has no hope if they go to a Christless grave.

    All sinners are lost:

*Man is judged already (John 3:18).

*God's wrath is on him (John 3:36).

*Man is dominated by Satan (Acts 26:18).

*Man is without excuse (Rom 1:20).

*The result of sin is death (Rom 6:23).

*The cross is foolishness to sinners (1 Cor 1:18).

    *Mankind is evil (Matt 13:38).

*They are slaves to sin (Rom 6:17).

*Man is under the decree of sin (Gal 3:22)

*Men follow the devil (John 8:48).

*Man is perishing (2 Cor 4:3).

*Satan blinds sinners' minds (2 Cor 4:4).

*Sinners are dead in their relationship to God (Eph 2:1).

*Sinners are dead in trespasses and sins (Eph 2:1).

*Man is dead in his transgressions (Col 2:13).

    John 8:21, 24

Verse 21; "..."In your sin you shall die," Verse 24; "..."Ye shall die in your sins."

Being defiled in sin, under the power of sin, even until physical death is a twofold death. The second death implication is spiritual death. Standing guilty before a Holy God for living a lifetime in unrepentant sin, and consequently dying in them, requires one to be held accountable and endure the punishment which would result in experiencing the second death. Why in the world would sinners want to role the dice with their eternal souls at stake of being forever lost in the first place? Well, I could think of one reason.

    1 John 2: 15-16

The love of this present evil world.

Sinners indulge in the sinful activities that this would has to offer (its in their fallen nature). Why give it up to follow Jesus. There're in love with sin.
The world system, which is full of wicked desires, lusts of the flesh, lusts of the eyes, the pride of life, and all its alluring sinful pleasures, traps the sinner in a cage of bondage to sin. To constantly indulge in sinful worldly desires will always result in putting off the acceptance Christ (repentance) to a future date that may never come. Thats why the Bible says; "Today is the day of salvation." Next week or even tomorrow is guaranteed to no one. Willful sinning produces a continual "stronghold" in the mind of putting Christ off until it's too late. This not only results in lost opportunities for salvation, (there is no opportunity to get saved after death) but as the individual chooses to "die unrepentant in his sins," he forfeits his eternal soul to eternal punishment separated from a loving heavenly Father forever. In a case like this, the deceased who have chosen this road to follow in life are left without any hope throughout all eternity.

It's no wonder that Scripture says sinners are dead in their relationship to God, (Eph 2:1) and sinners have no hope (Eph 2:12). Upon their death, they enter into a Christless grave (Luke 16:22-25) with all hope of repentance forever lost.

Going into more detail, what kind of eternal punishment will the hopeless lost sinner have to endure in the afterlife?

*Sinners will be judged in the future (John 5:29.

*Sinners can expect God's judgment (Heb 10:27).

*Sinners will experience God's wrath (1 Thess 1:10).

*People will be weeping and gnashing their teeth (Matt 13:42).

*Sinners will go into eternal fire (Matt 25:41).

*Sinners will go into eternal punishment (Matt 25:46).

*Sinners will go into hell (Mark 9:23).

*Sinners will be in unquenchable fire (Mark 9:48).

*Gods wrath abides on sinners (John 3:36).

*Sinners are unworthy of eternal life (Acts 13:46).

*Sinners will not inherit the kingdom of God (1 Cor 6:9, Gal 5:21).

*Sinners will experience the second death, the lake of fire (Rev 20:14).

As hopeless and horrible of the fate that awaits those who die unredeemed in their sins, there are two sides to the coin.

*Anyone can receive Christ (Luke 9:48).

*Everyone can confess Christ (Luke 12:8)

*Anyone can believe in Him (John 3:16, 12:46).

*Everyone can call on His Name (Acts 2:21).

*Salvation is to everyone who believes (Rom 1:16).

*All who call upon the name of the Lord will be saved (Rom 10:13).

*Christ died for the ungodly (Rom 5:6).

*Christ gave His life as a ransom for many (Matt 20:28).

*We have redemption through Christ's blood (Eph 1:7).

*Christ was delivered up for me (Gal 2:20).

Does the Spirit of God dwell in you? Only those who have the Spirit of Christ, belong to Him (Rom 8:9).

Is your name written in the book of Life? (Phil 4:3) Our eternal salvation depends on it being recorded in the book of life (Rev 20:15). God keeps records. He knows His own. The only hope for the dead depends on what they did with the opportunities presented to them to receive and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ while they were alive on earth. If a person rejected the Lord Jesus Christ during their lifetime and died in their sins, all hope is lost. There is no eternal redemption. The lost individual can only expect eternal judgment and punishment. The Bible is clear. Those who have died in Christ have eternal hope. Those who have died outside of Christ's redeeming redemption have no hope. There are only two groups of dead people. The saved and the lost. The saved hope. The unsaved hopelessness. Both groups of these deceased people will experience a resurrection. One to life everlasting in eternal glory. One to everlasting contempt in eternal damnation. This is what the Bible teaches. Anything being taught contrary to this is false teaching. I hope this clears up any confusion or questions you may have had on this most important biblical subject.
If you put God First, you have Him at Last.

The fire that destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah was of fire and brimstone. It's likely that God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah with volcanic eruptions.

Mt. Zin in the wilderness of Zin which is not terribly far from the location of Sodom is a volcano. The brimstone found in the area of Sodom are what you would expect from a volcanic eruption.

Another theory is that the fire and brimstone could have been caused by a cosmic airburst.

I know this speculation may be way out there, but maybe God just did it supernaturally. There doesn't necessarily need to be a natural explanation for it. You know Lot's wife did turn into a pillar of salt also, so that's pretty supernatural. Just a thought. :)
Look, as it were, through a telescope that will bring it up near to you; look into hell, and hear them groan; then turn the glass upwards and look at heaven, and see the saints there, in their white robes, with their harps in their hands, and hear them sing the song of redeeming love; and ask yourself--Is it possible, that I should prevail with God to elevate the sinner there? Do this, and if you are not a wicked man, and a stranger to God, you will soon have as much of the spirit of prayer as your body can sustain. -Charles Finney 'The Spirit of Prayer' from 'Lectures On Revivals of Religion'
