My daughter has a sister in law who is orthodox Jew, on certain holy days my daughter is not allowed into her house because she is "unclean". I don't know if this law also applies to her nephew, my grandson. Anyway Tom, like Paul said if your going to hold out circumcision as a mark of holiness, why not just cut the whole thing off!

I believe the bible is pretty clear about the law, apply as much law as the conscience allows, if eating shrimp fouls your conscience, don't do it, shrimp eaters on the other hand are to respect and tolerate the weaker conscience.
The laws were given out of love, they are good for us, they are not a measure of righteousness.

The letter to the Galatians was clear. Today, a pastor preaching such would have people's ears tingling. They would light up the social media. Truth can be that way.

I think that takes us back to the OP. Loving Jesus is connected with His commandments and has absolutely nothing to do with how much He loves us. His love is unconditional. I think He might be trying to teach us the technique of loving Him since is seems obvious that we have all failed in the past.

He first loved us. His love is shed abroad IN our hearts. Prior to the sacrifice made on that wooden cross, the shedding of innocent blood, the best that man could do on his own was attain a level of righteousness that allowed him into Gods' presence, a fleeting occurrence. His presence now abides in us, not on us or near us. No amount of shrimp can alter that. Because, He first loved us.
