Thread: Why so few miracles?

  1. #1

    Why so few miracles?

Miracles still happen. I get that. But they often also DON'T happen. Why is that? I think one answer is found in Joshua 3:5 when Joshua told the people, "Sanctify yourselves: for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you."

Sanctification was necessary for the wonders to happen. Today, many Christians are so blended with the world and its thinking that they don't realize that to be one of God's people requires being "set apart" (sanctification). They want the miracles and wonders, but they also want the world. God may give miracles among unbelievers as a witness to them, but among believers, He expects a sanctified people to pray the miracles into reality.

May God call us all to a greater degree of being "set apart" for His use.

I think it depends on what you call a miracle. To be a miracle in our rich countries where we have high exspectations, a miracle could be that somebody is raised from the dead.
Here in Albania it may be a bottle of oil for a roma grandmother, who can not afford to buy it.
I also think that peoplelove the spectaculous, and God is not giving that.
As a christian I believe that God meets all my needs, I do not depend on miracles, even if I love them to happen.

I love the very small things God does. It shows me that he really cares for each single person.
A tiny miracle to me happend yesterday evening. On mondays we have a programm for families with disabled kids. Last week Priszi met a women and invited her and the daughter, but Priszi is away this week. I got sick with flu and was not there, Vici had to take his wife to the hospital and even Zymbyle felt bad and left for home taking the key of the front door of the church with her. In the middle of the programm Aneli knew that she should go and check outside... and there was this mom with her daughter.
For me this is a small miracle, I love it. I thank God for it. There are so many smaller things happen here in mission that are unexspected, but always in favor of seekers and people in need.
Maybe it is here also because we so much depend on God here. Albania is a very corrupt country with a low health system and little social help.

I was really convicted of this along with my prayer life a few years ago. It was almost like God asked me "do you really believe"?
I wish I could say I began seeing miracles every day. I will say that I have seen God do some wonderful things in our family although it has not
all been done without some pain along the way.
I believe we have all been far too dependent on medicine and just our own self independence.
Thanks for the reminder of sanctifications. I've been wondering if God is taking all of us to a new place with some possible hard times ahead. I can't help but look back on the Israelites as I read through the Old Testament and wonder how God has put up with us these years.

    Acts 3
12 And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk?

Not sure that's the root problem. I think it's just basically unbelief. During the healing revival many of those men were found to have a good amount of sin in their life, but they still had a great faith toward God for miracles. Of course you don't want to continue walking in that kind of power with sin in your life because many fell, but it appears sanctification of holiness is not the real problem. Many holy people have never operated in power. Why, because they're not totally related. Holiness is more of a protection from the devil while walking in the power, but not the source of the power.

I remember when Daniel Kolenda came to our church in NC and he made this statement and most don't get it. Surprised me he even said it or believed it, because I never heard anybody say it even though I already believed it. "Holiness is not the key to power. Faith is the key to power."

16 And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all. Peter himself said it was totally unrelated to holiness and told us the reason: His Name through faith in his name. That tells me it's a faith/unbelief problem.

Our problem is we don't step out in faith more. "It is easier to act yourself into believing than believe yourself into acting". John G Lake. It's like we're waiting for stuff to happen instead of going out from the church and boldly declaring the healing power of God. I have a friend that sees miracles constantly and it's because he goes out on the streets and businesses, etc, and if he sees somebody that needs healing he boldly declares, "If you will take my hand the power of God will go into you AND HEAL YOU RIGHT NOW. That a big chicken line most haven't stepped over. I know him well and he's doesn't seem any more sanctified or holy than anybody else I know that doesn't see miracles. Boldness is faith in action. Peter actually had to say that to the crippled man in public and take him by the hand and pull him up.

If we're all waiting to get perfect to do anything it's ain't gonna happen. That's why we have the blood of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit. It allows us imperfect vessels to still walk in great faith and see God do miracles.

So I guess I basically totally disagree with your post.

If one lacks holiness, one also lacks faith. The two are inseparably linked.

Yes. If you can grasp your salvation, your standing and all that it entails, you can operate in power.

I can't agree with that. My example of the old timers during the healing movement. A person could be very flawed and still have great faith. Peter himself said it was not related to holiness at all.

Anybody in this thread don't think they're particularly holy or sanctified? Then what's the problem? :)
