Thread: Testing the Prophets: Testing the Prophecies Given in 2020

  1. #11
A sister in a Bible study group I'm member of told me about a self identified prophet, Chris Yoon. He figured prominently on YouTube prior to the election and at the time had something like 170K subscribers.
Isn't there a point where YouTube pays someone who achieves such a following?

I learned from watching Yoon's prophecy links that she forwarded me as to what I believe a prophet is not.

That is, someone who need apologize for getting it wrong. As Mr. Yoon did after the election. His reason for being wrong was, in so many words, he's still practicing in learning to discern the Lord and his words in contrast to Mr. Yoon's own thoughts on any given topic.

For my part, I think if someone is a true prophet of God, their two cents do not enter in at all. God speaks through them. Rather than that prophet having to decipher their personal thoughts from that of what they believe is God speaking.
"Sometimes the devil allows people to live a life free of trouble because he doesn't want people turning to God. Their sin is like a jail cell, except it is all nice and comfy and there doesn't seem to be any reason to leave. The door's wide open. Till one day time runs out and the door slams shut and suddenly it's too late to get out."
(Lenore Banks ~ "God's Not Dead")

Yet there is a degree of having to discern what is your thoughts and what is God's word coming to you. I can at times give a word that requires me to step out in faith with only a glimpse of a picture the Lord has given me, sometimes with one phrase. As with a preacher, you start out in faith and God guides. Later, there is the confirmation.

    Ponder this:
32 "And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets." (1Cor 14:32)

That requires immersion in the written Word. So many don't have the Word written on their heart let alone their minds, once it is written on your heart it is not a challenge to discern what mind is speaking in your head.

The guy is probably making $20K/yr from ad revenues, which ain't bad for an hour or two a day of telling people what God "told you". Add to that any donations he might receive. It's disgusting but YouTube marketers who know a little Bible can amass a big following by doing prophetic videos. Undiscerning Christians eat that stuff up.

The same goes for conspiracy theory videos. The constant need to tell new and entertaining things means that theories get less and less based on actual evidence and more and more on speculation. Or outright lies, some times. This is the age of "infotainment". The difference between enter- and info- may be marginal.
