I remember Christmas of 1984, I had forgotten to get celery for my stuffing. Dh and bil went looking for it, but there was no store open that carried it. No Walmarts back then and all the grocery stores were closed. Now, that wouldn't be a problem at all.

So it seems this is one area where the church leads the world, and the world follows the church. Churches led the way for stores being open on Sunday.

Here in Norway people don't go to church and they don't shop on Sundays either. There are some exceptions like small convenience stores and gas stations are always open. Store workers like it that way because then they have one day where they never have to work a shift.

we r church hopping right now and loving every minute of it. its interesting to see how different churches act. many times we can tell where the Holy Spirit is and where He's not.... on a side note i have become quite knowledgeable in the taste of different grape juices during communion.

The overwhelming consumerist mentality in our nation has spilled over and saturated the thinking of Christians throughout the Church in the United States. More and more believers in America approach the concept of finding and remaining in a church the same way they would handle buying a car, shopping for the latest technological advancement, or choosing a movie to watch. An institution whose founder came not to be served, but to serve, has been tainted by a ceaseless drum beat of "what can you do for me?" The worship environment, the style of music, the dress code, the church programming, and the overall focus of the church, is no longer about the Lord and His agenda, but about the personal preferences of individual church shoppers.

I tend to agree to some degree...my pastor preached yesterday on the issue of God centered worship in the gathering vs the individual.
I believe that is somewhat accurate. He said the 'church' per se seems to be rearranging chairs on the Titanic...tweaking this and changing that to appeal to the masses rather that seeking the face of God in humility for a fresh vision of HIM from Him..

That would have been the year that I would have liked your stuffing.

If we remember that we are a body and when God leads us to a gathering it is to both contribute and GET.. There are times I go only because I know God called me t serve and my brethren will feel my absence..not because I am really special but because the Lord says when one member hurts the whole body suffers...when I feel useless or valueless I know that I am useful and of value if for no other reason that I AM a body member..
Even if no one tells you they missed you, in the realm of the Spirit something was amiss because you were not there, IF you were supposed to be there.
