My Dr. told me I was probably depressed and stressed prior to her death due to the constant hospitalizations and having to be home with them almost 100% of the time. So when she passed, the grief "grew legs". I was more "prepared" when my gm passed but it was still hard to deal with. But when my younger brother died tragically I all but shut down.

So I hope y'all forgive me for being quick to disconnect at times from here when the political caca gets too much to bear. And believe me I want to be able to pray and confess Scripture 24/7 but it's hard sometimes.
When the Holy Spirit spoke to me, "I AM your counselor" I totally understood...He was asking me to trust Him and listen to Him and let Him lead me out of the darkness...I began to listen and just LET Him teach me what I needed trusting Him to unravel the mess within...to untangle my mind....after about 2 years all of a sudden, the only way I can explain it, I saw life in color! I knew that the imbalance created and enforced with lies and hurt and all the other junk was gone....
He led me through forgiveness, revelations of His love and presence even as a child, serious personal honesty issues and accountability and responsibility...removing blame from my mind...through inferiority issues....fear of authority issues...but the KEY was letting HIM pick the topic and then listen and embrace the truth He spoke...each time I became a little more free...

No, but I do think it might be a good thing to look into if one is suffering.

My skin broke out in horrible rashes one time, so I go to the closet, pray. The Lord told me... "stop using that detergent". Skin fixed. Here I was thinking about becoming Job for a season. lol... so yes, environmental, chemical factors should be looked into, I heard that from someone I trust.

Some depressions like FO said in her post are incidental, the loss of a loved one or even a pet causes grief that may get out of hand, perhaps lingers too long to be healthy. In that case counseling, prayer, working through unresolved grief will be a "remedy". Vitamins probably aren't the answer there.

We do seem to be living in an age where depression seems to be epidemic, it seems like 90% of the population is on some med or another. I've seen some statistics that were surprising. Makes me think that something environmental might be afoot. Of course it all has a spiritual root, the enemy out doing what the enemy does.

that along with the when you know you need professional help not be denigrated for it, when things are off kilter, be able to get help.

"Just pray about it and read the Bible" isn't always the solution any more than it is for a virus, or major physical ailment. To suggest so is unreasonable and best and can be harmful.

Pastors need to know they're loved and respected even in their dark places.

Look at what happened with David. Many of the psalms we have were from when he was very depressed but knew God still loved him.
