    Ponder this...

Our cell leader threw out this question to the group this past week. Something to ponder:

Can God be displeased with us?

We had a few opinions aboiut this, and I have one, of course, but will offer it at a later time. What do you all think?

Yes, He can be displeased with us. He never stops loving us, but when we are disobedient or continue in willful sin, yes.

Of course. Hebrews says without faith it is impossible to please Him. As AJ said, He always loves us, but can be displeased.

This subject is actually a small pet peeve of mine. In the current extreme grace environment of the church, I have heard plenty of people/teachers say 'God is pleased with you' etc trying to make people feel better. My question is 'how do you know He's pleased with them? You don't know their life, their heart, etc.' Of course that statement would have to come from a belief that God is always 'pleased' with us. He isn't.

And as a NT example, and a direct quote from Jesus in Revelation 2, "4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love." I can confidently say that's a statement of not being pleased.

what's the argument for He can't be?

If it's because He sees us through the Jesus lens, I might be able to see a glimmer of a reasonable argument.

but, I'm with the rest, we can cause God to be displeased with us. .. I'd say it's more broken hearted.

But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.

Hey now! I like her and besides this is her thread, she can say as much as she wants to.

...and I thought of a verse too:

2 Samuel 11:27And when the mourning was past, David sent and fetched her to his house, and she became his wife, and bare him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the Lord.

    He Is Our

So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do. Luke 17:10

    Only Hope

It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Well, after some pondering, my response to the question I threw out to you all is that God is never displeased with us. We still sin, yet all our sins are already forgiven, and God chooses to see us as perfect already.

For a few years I allowed myself to be overcome with grief due to the unexplained rejection of our daughter, which also meant that we would lose contact with our grandchildren as well, and took to my bed, blew up in size and just bailed out on living. My husband would continue to go to church, and sit by my bedside and read me the Psalms while I wept. I felt so faithless, having been called by God to a higher place that that!---and gifted by Him to influence others for Him in the way of discipling.

After I came out of that horrible, dark place, I remember sitting here at my computer, and just mourned the length of time I spent wallowing in grief, and I spoke out loud to the Lord, "Lord, I am so sorry I was so faithless! Please forgive me!" He answered me immediately, deep down inside: "I am pleased with your faith."

I thought, "WHAT? How can that be?" I knew it wasn't from me! Again He said, "I am pleased with your faith."

He was right there with me all the time, and all those times I envisaged myself climbing up into the lap of my Daddy, and allowing His great, warm arms to envelop me and comfort me. he knew my pain. He suffered it, too. He is highly acquainted with rejection.

So, I am more than convinced that God is never really displeased with His children, and is always faithful while we are unfaithful, and always totally loves, where we cannot do the same.
