Question Pastor Defends Use of Explicit Jay-Z Song in Service, Says He Curses in Prayer Sometimes Too

"The Rev. Marcus Murchinson of Tree of Life Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles, California, is unapologetic. There is nothing wrong with a few expletives in church, he says, because he knows God can handle it. And he is standing his ground even though he's been getting death threats for his belief.

"The truth is sometimes when I'm praying, my prayers are not 'guide me o thy great Jehovah, pilgrim through this barren land.' I'm not quoting from the 23rd Psalm. I'm not quoting from Philippians. Sometimes my prayers have explicit language in them. God I am bleep, bleep, bleep upset. And because of that, I learned that God can handle that," Murchinson explained in an interview Monday.

His small church in Watts has been at the center of a viral video storm since one of his now fired drummers posted a recording of three young girls doing what he describes as an avant-garde performance of Jay-Z's "The Story of OJ" from the rapper's platinum album, 4:44, on Sunday, July 30.

"Jay z and Tasha cobs (sic) praise dance in church...What are your thoughts?????" the fired drummer Ben Thompson asked with a flush faced emoji.

In the recording that runs for about 90 seconds, Murchinson's congregation appear to watch in silence as the girls step, twirl and throw faux cash in the air to represent "follies" like wasting money on strippers described by Jay-Z in the lyrics of the song replete with the N-word and other explicit language."

Guess thug pastor didn't get this memo in his bible...smh

“Avoid all perverse talk; stay away from corrupt speech.” Proverbs‬ *4:24‬ *

“And many false prophets will appear and will deceive many people. Sin will be rampant everywhere, and the love of many will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.” Matthew‬ *24:11-13‬ *

It's disheartening to see apostasy happening in Churches across the nation. But we must be constant in prayer as never before because the end is very near.

Sure, God can "handle" anything - Including expletives coming out of the mouth of the unsaved...

However, as a (so-called) "Man-of-God," I'm appalled that you'd talk to your HOLY, heavenly Father using curse words and expletives!!!

Nothing surprises me any more, especially from 'Christians'. Especially pastors.

Every time I think I can't be surprised by what some ignorant preacher says or does, something happens to surprise me. This qualifies. Actually, I am shocked by this. Even most sinners know better than this foolishness.

Then there are hyper grace proponents that go further than any outright heathen would bother to do, claiming curse words to be sanctified in Jesus and to be "reclaimed and employed" etc.

When the Holy Spirit is present a sense of awe prevents such .....not to mention a sense of real love for others in not wanting to be a stumbling block to them..

This man's issue goes far deeper than this..this is jut the fruit of it...Pray for him in the spirit and all those he is leading down the path that leads to destruction.

I question whether this man reads or has ever read the Bible. He sounds like one of those "fire insurance" Christians. Probably a gifted, charismatic speaker, but no Holy Ghost power to go with it.

Totally unnecessary and stupid. A misguided attempt at being "relevant".
