Why do you think that is part of African American culture ? Norwegian culture is quite the opposite, maybe too opposite.

I think some of it has to do with people who have deep-rooted feelings of insecurity or low self-esteem, who also feel disenfranchised and disrespected - They want to prove to the world that "they have arrived and they are somebody" - If that makes sense?

It's as if they are making a statement that says: "While my ancestors may have been slaves, look at me now!"

< Just speculating, because I don't understand why merely being a Servant of the Most High God isn't enough? >

But what about all the ones that make it possible ? Are they celebrating the one who doesn't have a low self esteem ?

    Amen...

He was beaten with many stripes, shipwrecked, stoned, left for dead, kept in prison.
Paul was an educated man but for him, he suffered it all for the glory of God to bring others to the Cross.

I often wonder if they are living vicariously through the "Exalted" one? - Also, thinking that they could be next in line to be exalted (?)

What hubris! What hauteur! What blatant pomposity! God considers it dung. $300 for a plate full of snobbery and pompousness. I better quite here before I speak my mind on this matter.
