Doing The Stuff for The Right Reasons ~

I love ALL the videos from the street ministries. Some of them actually have had me in tears. Some make me angry at the church for it's laziness. But what is the purpose of all our street ministry .I think it is to make disciples and Build His church. That entails a group of people meeting as much as they can together somewhere so they can be equipped to do life and ministry. Street Ministry is not an end in itself. We should not leave the thug there in his sin with a prophecy and a touch from God. We should compel him or her to come to our gathering where he or she can decide whether they want to be disciples. Vineyard disciples went out in droves to the streets in the 80's with the signs following them. They brought thousands into their fellowships with this method. Should we not get the same results ?

I agree with the message but do not see that the OP is the same...getting them to a fellowship is not necessarily the RIGHT reason. Gathering with other believers is a good thing, even a needful thing..but not the end..seems to me that once people settle into a fellowship they stop being disciples in the market place becaue they begin to believe that is 'the end'. So I agree with the message of the fellowship, gathering, as long as it is understood their purpose is to better equip new disciples to go back to the streets..

You are absolutely correct that we should be making disciples as commissioned by Jesus to do. Where it goes wrong is the mentality that the church has come to, and that is the thought that we need to bring someone to a gathering in order to hear the gospel and decide if they want to become a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Disciples present the gospel as they go. They heal the sick, cast out demons and preach the gospel of the kingdom.

We should compel them to repent and put their faith in Christ. The gathering together of the saints will come naturally to their new nature. They will desire to be with like minded believers.

Discipleship is not just about casting out devils and healing the sick. You can teach a baby Christian to do that. What discipleship is about is molding Christ-like character into the new believers. After the fireworks wear off what do you have left ? We need the signs and wonders, but without building Goldy character you create a monster !To disciple them we must let them see how we live day to day in and out of church. Some of these street preachers get an attitude when you mention attending church. When I hear that I see them as getting set up for a fall. It's about building a strong local church. When that's done right you can do all the street healing you want. It won't blow people up but will build them up.....

I never heard they were seeing sign, wonders, and miracles.

Does Vineyard do any holy rolling, or do they do mostly salvation and teaching?

Is that tongue in cheek or do you really not know this American idiom? No offense intended, btw.

The early Pentecostals were referred to as holy rollers because they would sometimes fall under the power while ministered to and then roll around on the floor for a little while. Whatever other images the term conjures inside your minds, I wouldnt know.

That is the original usage, I imagine. When I was growing up it became sort of a derogatory term for any pentecostals, by cessationists.

Yeah, I heard it used like that in an old American tv program once, something like "we had us some holy rollers too" referring to what kind of people showed up at a certain location. But I imagine that the term is getting quite old.
