Growing up in a mainline church, "ah-men" was sung at the end of every hymn and said after every prayer.

There was no "a-men-ing" during the sermon.

When I started hanging with the Charismatics and Pentecostals, "A-MEN" became my amen of choice (and our family's)...

Now my two year old grandson shouts "Happy New Year" at the end of saying grace at the table.

    Whatever works!

Growing up we sang Ah-men at the end of the hymns, but we said ay-men at the end of prayers.

I say A-men. But if you sing the Doxology, at the end it's ah-men. :)

A-men. I too remember singing ah-men. I notice Gloria Copeland says ah-men but it just sounds awkward to me.

Grew up singing Ah-men after hymns too!

Since amen is derived from a Hebrew word, we say Ahmen in Hebrew. If you want to be crazy accurate though, it is correct to say, "Ani ma'ahmin." It actually means, "I believe it!"

    Funny memory,

When my grandmother was alive, we would say grace:

God is great. God is good. Let us thank Him for our food. By His grace, we all are fed. Give us Lord, our daily bread. Ah-men

    Then she would add "A-Men"

    every. time.

LOL...so 'Ah-men' was part of the actual prayer and A-Men was her agreement with it!
