Churches doing tributes to Prince- thoughts?
I saw several churches on my Facebook page doing tributes this past Sunday to the rock star Prince.most were dressed in purple to honor him and his music
Here's just one example

Any thoughts on this? Is it appropriate or not ?

I've heard about this church in the past...very liberal. I think they even had Carlton Pearson in to preach a time or two

I didn't know that Bishop Paul Morton "borrowed" his version of "Let it Rain" from Purple Rain..that shows how much I listened to Prince (not much)

NO. The church is to worship Jesus. We may sometimes hold services to honor an individual follower/servant of Jesus (Pastor appreciation, a committed community worker, etc.) but even then the tribute is centered around Jesus Christ.
I said a few words about Andrae Crouch upon his death and we sung one of his songs, but the song we sung by him honored Jesus ("To God be the Glory"). While I believe that Prince was a talented man and was saddened by his death, I would NEVER dedicate a church service in honor to him. It is Jesus' church and worldly stuff has no place in it. If anything I would mention Prince or any other po star only in reference to the fact that if you are using your God-given gifts for worldly fame and money then just remember him and others in relation to Jesus' words "....what does it profit a man to gain the world and lose their soul?"
I know some might dispute my last sentence by saying, "You don't whether or not Prince called on God before he died." Yet, I will add, "Why take that chance?"

Yeah, that's really irrelevant. He was a known JW, and that's all we know. I'm not gonna hold a service honoring Hitler because he might have called on God before he died. I mean it's no different than if a church honored David Bowie after he died. Or Frank Sinatra. I mean why would you?
