I noticed that the page says that the author is with the Southern Baptist Convention and their Theological Seminary. Some of what he says reminds me of what people and ministers posting on CARM (and elsewhere) who were not baptized in the Holy Spirit would say, their vantage point was one of trying to serve God and others without the power of the Holy Spirit.

Amen. What struck me is that most of those points were so unbelievably fear-based, it's hard for me to relate to on any level. Seriously.

Truth be told, my previous pastor was literally going to NOT go on a vacation he had purchased specifically because another couple who were elders were leaving and he thought others would leave as well. It was this and other things like this that were so fear-based, I had a real hard time understanding it.

It is not to say that people don't get on your nerves but that is both in and out of the ministry.

I am not afraid to go on vacation, I am not worried about my children, my wife is very supportive of me, I follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit as well as the pastoral training I had been given by others so I know exactly what I am doing, and I spend plenty of time in fellowship with God and I love the Bible.

I know that their are burned out pastors but it is a myth to apply the above to the idea that this is common among pastors. I have a number of pastor friends who love the call of God on their lives. As one of my friends told his congregation last week, "I love my job."

THAT is a very good point Terri. FEAR!!!! Much of it is based on EGO and the American v(rather than BIBLICAL) version of success.

Last Sunday I had to preach at another church and left everything in the hands of my associate pastor. I was told later that the church had a great time WITHOUT ME there. I was told how the Spirit of God moved. Some insecure pastors would be jealous but the folks at our church know that I actually LOVE hearing stuff like that because I always tell them that if the church needs ME to run it then it is MY church and not Jesus's and if that's the case then it is time for us to close the doors. MY church is bound to fail. Jesus' church will run whether I am there or in Hawaii (perhaps our congregation will bless me with a trip to Hawaii )

When the folks can worship God, hear a good Word, and enjoy HIs presence without me around then I know that I am pastoring a church built by Jesus and not by falllible Troy Edwards.

One of my closest pastor friends takes several vacations a year. While he leaves the congregation in the hands of his associate, he tells me that I have permission to go preach there while he is gone. Now that dude is secure which is why I hang out with him.

Our pastor took two months off and travelled extensively. Now we do have a teaching "team" and are blessed that way, so several speak on Sunday morning. True Body ministry. Pastor said he honestly loves to see people succeed in their calling. I wish so badly I could visit your church!

I hope you, your husband and son can make it up here one day. I would love to have you. Not as much to see in RI as it is when you guys showed me around DC some years ago but we can at least get you some excellent seafood

But if not, I hope to at least get down there to see you guys again.

(VW in car with Catchy driving in car at Conn/RI border): "We going on a little sight seeing tour of Rhode Island. Here's the boder...." (after 5 minutes of driving): "And here's the other side of Rhode Island. Tour over."

There are those expensive rich people's mansions in Newport that folks like to see.

You can avoid major, expensive repair costs with an extended service plan for your Pontiac. Many vehicle repairs can cost thousands of dollars in unexpected expense, now may be the time to consider an extended service plan for your vehicle.
