The UMC here is in trouble. A husband and wife team are among them "pastoring" 6 churches. The last time I spoke with her she was headed into universalism...as a result of her home seminary studies. The husband knows less of the bible than most new converts. Very few UMC churches have conservative views. Their "conservative" is not usually bible "conservative". The Presbyterian USA is in the same condition. They better repent or their troubles are going to swallow them up very soon.

Don't the Methodists move pastors every 3 years no matter what? Although I'm sure they would make an exception for a rare megachurch.

Here they have nobody to cycle in. The female pastor I knew was saying she was bucking that hard as she could. Too many UMC churches are without pastors.

They've been fighting for 15-20yrs over it. I remember in my home town, one of the churches had a nasty very public split.

I do wonder if it will change direction once my generation dies off.
I'm going to make a guess that this is a fairly rare exception.
Most mainline liberal churches are dying unless they have maintained conservative values and again, that is rare.

I know the Catholics do this. They rotate their priest around to different parishes.
I asked a catholic why they do this and he said the catholic doesn't want the people to get too attached to one priest.

And the thing being they get attached and then the priest has more power over that congregation and direction.

No, they don't. They will move people around periodically, but it's usually a decision between the Pastor and the congregation.
