Removed, something the mainliners do not do often.

And then somebody started up a GoFundMe for him that had already raised 50k for his transition into a new job or whatever according to the article.

Duke and his wife, Linda, will continue to reside at the church's parsonage until Feb. 28 and Duke will continue to draw "a significantly reduced salary," but he will not be involved in the church in any capacity. The Rev. Mark Dicken was appointed interim pastor.

    Vacation time.

"While there is a diversity of opinion regarding the moral implications of Rev. Duke's actions, he has not been found to have committed any chargeable offense or other violation of the United Methodist Book of Discipline," Gieselman told church members in his letter.

Must not have thought anybody would ever do that. lol.

"Our desire is to provide an opportunity for Craig to again be able to utilize his numerous gifts as a pastor in a local congregation," the statement continues.

    Seriously?

Sounds like he was removed due to this particular congregation, no thanks to the Methodist church as a whole.

The United Methodist Church has been off the rails for quite some time now. And sadly, there is one in most small towns.

The United Methodist Church is going through a split right now over LGBT issues. My uncle's church will be holding a vote soon. If I'm understanding him correctly, they will be able to keep the church building, but will take on a different name should they decide to separate.

It depends on the community. My home church is still well attended by young families. It is still a conservative church. I'm not sure it's as vibrant as when I attended (my Rev. was Charismatic and brought that into the church) but it's still hanging in there. I do wonder if it will change direction once my generation dies off.
