    Mark Driscoll launches new church

    http://www.churchleaders.com/daily-b...n-pheonix.html

Mark Driscoll, the former senior pastor of Mars Hill Church, has filed incorporation papers to start a new church in Phoenix, Arizona. The new church will be called, "The Trinity Church in Arizona."

Fourteen months ago, Driscoll resigned from his leadership of Mars Hill Church, a church he planted in 1996 out of his living room. A few month after he resigned, Mars Hill Church ceased to exist.

Driscoll, alongside two other directors are describing the new church as a "Bible-based Christian church."

This plan seems to have been in the works for months. In July, Driscoll announced he was moving his family to Phoenix for a "new adventure." Driscoll has said publicly that he still has the desire and the call to plant another local church.

On Nov. 30, 2015, Driscoll and a small team of leaders incorporated, "The Trinity Church in Arizona."

Mark Driscoll remains a controversial figure in evangelicalism. He spoke to Gold Creek Community Church earlier this year, "I would like to talk talk about Jesus instead of me: It would be much more pleasant and helpful." He received a standing ovation.

Saw this and meant to post it. God bless him. He is accountable to a plethora of men so I think it's got a good foundation.

It wasn't like he committed some egregious sin or anything in resigning from his church. More power to him.

Now if he'd just get his doctrine straightened out though...

I agree. A writer called it, "death by a thousand paper cuts".

That said, while of course you or I would not agree with his Reformed theology, by the same token, he is not anti-Pentecostal, he attempted to put MacArthur in his place, and he had some really good things about his Church in terms of structure that I found to be very wise. I thought one of the more interesting things he had was a sort of disclaimer for new members that I think every Church should adopt. Basically, he spelled out in very specific terms what the terms would be for someone in open rebellion/sin/etc....under what conditions they would be asked to leave and why the pastors would reach the conclusion that they could no longer pastor you. I know it goes against our mindsets, but I find this refreshing. Maybe he learned the hard way, but I think that is a very good thing to do for your members. That way, it is crystal clear what will happen under certain circumstances. And it was very loving and kind the way it was written.

"Death by a thousand paper cuts". Exactly. I hadn't heard that. lol.

I've heard him say that he has people on his staff that speak in tongues, etc. So he apparently isn't a doctrinal cessationist , although he is somewhat a practical and functional one.

Do you mean you hadn't heard the saying before? I've heard it used before, but I thought it was SOOOOO appropriate in this instance. It's usage was perfect. As you can tell, I never forgot it.

It kinda sounds familiar, but I can't remember. But I definitely didn't hear it in regards to this. In similar situations I will be using it from now on.

    It's Chinese...

...death by a thousand cuts (simplified Chinese: 杀千刀; traditional Chinese: 殺千刀) or “千刀万剐”, the slow process, the lingering death, or slow slicing, was a form of torture and execution used in China from roughly AD 900 until it was banned in 1905....

    Nasty

This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity (futility) of their mind, having the understanding darkened...
    (Ephesians 4:17-18)

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly...
    (Psalm 1)
