Thread: Hillsong church-Christmas Carols

  1. #11
I think the shag carpet ensemble with the bare midrif put me off most.

well, along with the whole trash a standard Christmas carol thing.

But, I wonder if we'd all be as unhappy if it was a secular group. I'm not sure.

I think I would.. about the music especially.

I dont like it either. They come across as doing something that they arent usually allowed to do, as if something trapped within is being allowed out and it is quite ugly. Not necessarily a secret sin but something that needs being renovated rather than displayed. It could be that a need to be contemporary rather than old and fresh rather than dull and boring is the motivation but they miss the mark on holiness being the most important component and moreso the more 'wild' things get. Difficult to describe in English, I hope that made sense.

Well...one should remember, this is being done in Europe, where they are not as 'repressed' as us Americans (both in church and outside of it)

I do like the above video that Krys posted.. I can easily see that kind of production being done in my church (on a much smaller scale of course--we're not that big)

Really? I guess my reaction to the video Krys posted is....song is sung well, but again....why the dude without a shirt on playing the drums? What was the point of that? If it's to be "diverse", well, I'm cool with that. But the buff dude without a shirt on just seems puzzling as the other drummers were fully clothed. The young lady who sang, Come All Ye Faithful is certainly beautiful and talented.

Ya'll got young, buff, men running around your Church without shirts on, FO?

They should have all been like this. And I don't say that as someone who only likes hymns and tradition...just the opposite. I love for people to be creative and reach higher in terms of the same ole same ole Christmas songs. But the jazz theme and people halfway clothed is bizarre.

Um...heck to the naw!! But during our passion play the past couple of years, Jesus wasn't wearing a shirt during the Crucifixion (and that was a fairly huge production even for a church our size, just sayin' )

The drummer is buff and half naked to fit the african tribesman stereotype. There is a point to it. A European pays less attention to that sort of thing if he has an idea of the context.
