Thread: Jeremiah Johnson shutting down JJM

  1. #11
The church he started and share-pastored was devastated after he left. More than half the people left after he resigned. That shows me we still have a lot of idol worshippers in the body of Christ. After years of seeing satan puff up the rising shooting star preachers then whack them suddenly it's really sad. And then here comes the next round of newbies with the latest and greatest teaching that will "revolutionize" the body of Christ. And the older saints look on and shake their heads waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Whenever you or a body of believers (church) elevate a leader (pastor or what have you) to a position of idol worship, be prepared for an emotional let down. This person has just as much of a fallen sin nature still intact (after receiving the new birth) as you or I. They are still prone to temptation, loneliness, marital strife and some carnality (depending on their spiritually maturity) as the rest of us. But we forget that and put them on this spiritual pedestal of exemptness to failure or missing the mark. When they do miss it (immoral activity, greed, false teaching, or a failed prophecy, we find ourselves in a state of shock. How could you let me down. I looked up to you. What am I going to do now? The best preventive cure to being thrown a curve ball due to a leaders fall (or whatever case contributes to the let down) is to never elevate this person to "sinless perfection" or idolization of a man in the first place. Sure, the leader will be most likely on satan's "hit squad list" so he can scatter the sheep, but if your prepared spiritually, mentally, and emotionally, by not putting a man (or woman for that matter) on a pedestal, and idolizing him or her, you won't find yourself running blindsided with the other sheep into the ditch when there is chaos behind the pulpit.
If you put God First, you have Him at Last.

When a believer substitutes a man (his/her celebrity preacher/singer) and puts them in the spotlight before Jesus, there're headed for trouble.
When your high expectations of your "idol" burst, you become disappointed because your "spiritual leader" or "favorite singer" or some person who is important in your eyes (who has popular status within the sphere of your life) turns out to be not what you had hoped for, or not what you thought they were. Under the fancy suit and the glitter of make-up is a human being with imperfections. No matter how bright the lights, everyone has limited limitations and personality flaws.
Some may have even suffered "ship wrecked faith" because they were so devastated by there're "Christian Celebrity's" failure (or whatever contributed to there shortcoming) that they find it almost unbearable to recover. To avoid from ever having to experience such "inner emotional turmoil" in the first place, don't put man or women before God.
He not only desires us to put Him first, He commands this in Luke 14:26 and Matthew 22:37.
Besides this, Jesus will never let you down or fail you; Hebrews 13:5 and Matthew 11:28.
It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man (Psalm 118:8).
If you put God First, you have Him at Last.

It's always been that way. The only thing that saves these churches is if they are replaced with someone with equal or greater star power.

I've seen it over & over. A great high profile leader & founder dies and the people scatter in a million directions. Often they never took the time to think ahead for a smooth transition.

What most want is Power, Glory, Miracles, etc.. What we need for long term sustainability and longevity is good ethics and morals. I warned a young preacher that satan was going to trip him up because of how he handled his dealings with the opposite sex. He cut me off angrily. I heard later that he had taken a fall and has recovered. But when we see it coming and warn them they don't listen for the most part....Touch not my "annoying" not anointed. Sad

And rooted in the Word. I remember Dad Hagin saying he told a bunch of ministers way back in the day something like I'll be around longer than you because I'm basing my ministry on the Word and you're basing yours on the gifts of the Spirit manifestations.

Yes, Amen to that. Brother Hagin said many times," don't build your ministry on a Gift you have but build it on the Word of God!" One time I was scheduled to preach at my home church as my Pastor was away for the weekend. Before the service the Spirit of Prophecy was really strong on me. I could have done away with the short message I had prepared and started to prophesy over individuals immediately. Yet I remembered the exhortations that the Goodwins and Brother Hagin gave about putting the Word first so we would not get imbalanced. After the message I called some Bible school students (about 12) up front to pray for them. Every one got an accurate personal prophecy from the Lord. I could had done that at the beginning of the service but I remembered the cautions of those men of God. It did not diminish the Anointing one bit. Actually I think it got stronger.

As ministers we should never forget our day of small beginnings "from whence we came". It was after the great failure of King Saul that Saul was painfully rebuked by the prophet Samuel when he said "remember the days when you were small in your own sight" (my personal paraphrase).

The 3 G's have and still will take you down into flames:
    -Gold
    -Glory
    -Girls

    Selah
