The Marine Corps is a Department of the Navy so when it came to budgets, we got short shrift, all of our gear was "hand me down", used, graffiti laced but we called it "serviceable" instead of calling it by its proper name (junk). The flak jackets and helmets were particularly colorful! I never saw a new poncho, backpack (we were still using old school rucksacks), helmet, flak jacket, canteen, utility belt, magazine, rifle or pistol. Even the c-rats were a bit vintage.

That hand me down reputation was very obvious when Army was using the new Tomahawk attack helicopter and the Marines were issued refurbished and updated Cobra’s.

That theory was the underlying basis for the AK-47.

I ate in an Air Force chow hall/restaurant one time. Opened my eyes to how the others lived/ate.

Having a blast getting this piece broke in. The Blazer ammo was too erratic for me. One moment I’m plinking the 20yd plates over like a veteran and suddenly no hits. One plate I missed 3 times. Just shook my head and grinned. Today, I visited our gun shop down the road and nabbed a box of Magtech ammo and just now put 8 into a 3” group out in the back yard. That’s more like it. The Blazer ammo uses small primers and Magtech uses large. Maybe that is part of the consistency.

I used to read a blog written by a guy that went through the collapse of the Soviet Union, he went through all the various stages of collapse, the dangers, etc.

He said the best personal carry was a .22 with a lot of round capacity. Ammo is plentiful, you don't always want to make a lot of noise, easily carried and if you run into gangs you'll need those rounds. I pretty much agree with him in urban situations.

My late preacher-outdoorsman friend said his choice was a 22mag for the reason you can quickly discourage bad guys with a well placed shot between the lookers.

.45acp because anything more than one shot is wasted ammo.
