Thread: Fishing!

I took my wife out on my fun lake and thoroughly enjoyed watching her fight something more than a bluegill, though she did catch a nice one. There is a very special lure I use that fish just can't lay off of. When it's getting dark I usually leave the weedy area and troll the middle of the lake on the way back. So I snapped my hot lure on her line knowing full well she will catch a thriller of a fighting bass or big pike. Yup, sho nuff...

I can't get her to pose with any fish, even a pleasant largemouth...so y'all get me posing with her fish.

Last night was another skunk session on Six Mile. I have fished for Muskie on this lake on a weekly basis since mid-August without a single bite from bass, pike, walleye etc....and it's time to move onto another lake up the "chain", Saint Clair lake. These lakes are interconnected by shallow, weedy rivers and each are on the DNR's muskie program. Saint Clair is much smaller and ignored by most. At least in this lake there will be other fish to be caught. We'll see next week.

Here are a few pics of Six Mile lake from last night:

Fishermen have a solar/lunar chart similar Farmers Almanacs predicting growing crops and predicting weather patterns. We call it the Solunar tables. Just for fun I follow it with memories of my grampa mentioning it to me some 50 years ago.

Tonight, the tables say poor fishing...like 13% poor. Makes me wonder if any of those geeks actually fish.

Had a great night out on my "fun" lake. Water temps dropped 2% in 2 days and that IS important. Sky was cloudy, sprinkling rain and calm. Very calm. I was on fire tonite, just killing them. The lure I used was that super hot lure that fish can't lay off of. I barely had the line wet and a small largemouth tore into it. Then a walleye, a perch, lastly a pike. Lost a nice one while anchored. All others were by trolling in 15ft of water.

I guess the fish don't follow the solunar tables either.

Pike are way more delicious than bass bro. There is a way to fillet them that gets rid of those pesky "Y" bones. I have a delicious recipe for fish coating, too:

    WONDERFUL COATING FOR FISH

1 PACK OF DRAKES CRISPY FRY
2 CUPS OF YELLOW CORN MEAL
    1 SLEEVE OF CRACKERS SMASHED
    1 CUP FLOUR
    1 TBSPN SALT
    1 TBSPN PEPPER
    1 TBSPN ONION SALT
    1 TBSPN CYANNE PEPPER
    1 TBSPN GARLIC POWDER

Dry off your fish with paper towel before coating, this helps to keep it crisp. This is not a breading, but a nice thin crispy coating.

After you take the fish out of the fryer and put it on a plate with paper towel, sprinkle just a dash of Slap Ya Mamma on it, and you have fish so delicious that it is hard to stop eating it.

Yup, that I knew but anymore I just keep walleye if they are well above the size limit. Tossed two 15 1/4" back this past few times out. Thanks for the recipe!
