I started working as music teacher this past Monday. I have no formal teaching experience, nor do I possess a degree. The first day was pretty dismal. The students told me they don't like singing, there was no materials I was familiar with in the room, and I have no music material of my own other than christian. And this is a school.
I also asked the kids their favorite choir songs. They said "we don't like choir songs." So I also learned they felt they did not do well last year. I said "well practice" is what makes you good. We are the music team, just like there is a football team, and we must practice to get anywhere."
I said I know a song I heard 40 years ago, as I heard it over and over again. Want to hear it? ""yes they said" So I sang them the Armour hot dog song! "Hot dogs, Armour Hot dogs" what kind of kids eat armour hot dogs!" They were all laughing and wanted me to look it up on you tube. So i did. Then they wanted to sing it (so we did) and now, They are singing! (and they liked it!!) so you have heard of Aquire the Fire, now you have heard "inspire the choir" by Laura Grace. PS (and it was fun!)
