When the incoming missiles dont get knocked out when they're far away, this gun will take care of business. I work for a company that makes part of this shipboard system, called the Phalanx.

Reminds me of the Vulcan we used in the Army!
I was in a missile maintenance company and some of my friends were in the Air Defense section and worked on those.

I worked on ground systems, the Lance, Sheleighly, TOW and Dragon systems.
The Sheleighly was being phased out during my training so we never actually worked on them after school.
The Dragon was scary dangerous. They were known to hit the dirt or even turn around and come back towards the firer.
We should have fired up all our Lance missiles in Desert Storm, but they could not be deployed over there because they had nuke capability. Shamefully, I am sure it cost billions to disarm and destroy them instead. They were propelled by two very deadly acids mixing together.
The T.O.W. is still being used today, it has been around since the Vietnam era.
The computer system that was used for testing them was so large that it fit into an enclosure that was transported on a 5-ton Long bed truck, similar to the one in the pic. The computer system shown in the pic is like the one that we used in the classroom, taken out of it's shelter and re-assembled.

Yeah, the only time I got to fire one of them was in basic in '79. That was a few days ago!
