Apple Siri - Amazon Alexa .. Spies in your Home

Home Assistant Adopter Beware: Google, Amazon Digital Assistant Patents Reveal Plans for Mass Snooping
Internet giants Amazon and Google are slashing prices and offering supposed deals on their “digital assistants” this holiday season, but a study of patent applications associated with the devices reveals plans for massive surveillance of users’ homes, Consumer Watchdog warned today.

Consumer Watchdog said that a study of patent applications filed by Amazon and Google with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office reveals a vision for an Orwellian future in which digital assistants eavesdrop on everything from confidential conversations to your toilet flushing habits to children’s movements and the books on bedside tables. They would know when you go to sleep and whom you wake up with.
    and..

“This isn’t about helping people, it’s about selling people,” said Simpson. “If these patents are implemented, there will be unparalleled surveillance of our private lives. The privacy invading implications of these devices are profound.”

“Instead of charging you for these surveillance devices, Google and Amazon should be paying you to take one into your home,” Simpson said.

Ok, so ... I can't avoid Intel ..... what do I look for to avoid this? I'm currently shopping for a new laptop.

The incredible part of all this is that people scramble to get all this stuff.

You can buy a laptop or a PC with an AMD processor.

I bought one of these a few years back.

There are two chip/processor selections when searching.. Intel (compromised) or AMD.

    AMD works fine, no issues.

    Thanks.

So you never use anything with Intel, or is it pretty much unavoidable for the most part?

And the digital assist stuff isn't an issue yet?

And I apologize. My questions must seem so basic.

Don't buy them unless you are ok with spying and I think if you wait awhile and you really, really want one, they will be free.

So here's another basic question. I know we've discussed search engines and the info they collect and store. Is there a browser that doesn't do that? I don't recall that info, if there have been recommendations. I started using QUANT for searching...

Simple way is to use firefox in incognito mode.

    file> new private window

or hit the keys ... > Ctrl Shift P

    Private Browsing with Tracking Protection

When you browse in a Private Window, Firefox does not save:

    visited pages
    cookies
    searches
    temporary files

    Firefox will save your:

    bookmarks
    downloads

Private Browsing doesn’t make you anonymous on the Internet. Your employer or Internet service provider can still know what page you visit.
    Tracking Protection

Some websites use trackers that can monitor your activity across the Internet. With Tracking Protection Firefox will block many trackers that can collect information about your browsing behavior.

The big thing with web browsing is ad trackers, they follow you around, store and resell the data etc.

you can install ghostery in firefox, it takes care of most stuff.
