    A Tribute to William Schallert

    Yep, another one. :)

Well it's not really a tribute per se, but just wondering how many remember this old-timer? And how many of you knew who I was talking about just from his name in the title? I couldn't have told you his name.

I was watching an episode from the first season of Andy Griffith ("Quite Sam) and he was in it. Many here will remember him as a staple of guest shots on tv shows and from movies for many many years. I don't think there was particularly and specific movie or series he was known from, but a stable just like Jesse White was.

Looking at his IMDB page, his first appearance which was uncredited was in "The Foxes of Harrow" in 1947. He was uncredited in a few well known movies in the beginning such as Mighty Joe Young; The Red Badge of Courage; Singin' In the Rain; The Jazz Singer. Appeared in many TV shows such as Andy Griffith; Dick Van Dyke; Gunsmoke; Perry Mason; Dr Kildare; Have Gun Will Travel, and many other popular programs; a regular in Dobie Gillis, Patty Duke, Get Smart; He was also a regular in a few other shows but played a different person every time he appeared. He was also in one of the most popular episodes of Star Trek, 'The Trouble With Tribbles.' His last appearance was in '2 Broke Girls' as an elevator operator. He died i 2016.

Speaking of him being an elevator operator, I have noticed recently many old character actors and actors with their own popular shows appearing in bit parts where I almost didn't recognize them.

Yes, I knew who it was immediately. Another fine character actor from the 50s and 60s.

What is it that you guys love so much about the 50s and 60s ? It was mostly before your time, sort of.

I was born in '52, so I grew up in that era - I have mixed feelings about those times...

...Some of it was simple, clean and good-natured fun, and some of it was mean, dark and ugly.

Well I was born in '56. So I've seen these actors all my life. Actors always popping up in TV and movies basically over my lifetime.

Nope. They kept appearing through the 70s, 80s, 90s, etc. But I happen to be seeing them on a program that came out in 1960. :)

Met him in person when I was worked the Airport. Nice guy. Stopped and said hello. Met a lot of celebrities when I worked there. Saw him in a few TV Westerns, he played a good bad guy and on Gunsmoke once, he played a mountain guy so well, it was down right comical!

You need to name some names and spill who were nice and who weren't.
