Mary Tyler Moore dies at 80

-Sitcom sweetheart Mary Tyler Moore, who gained fame playing winsome television producer Mary Richards on the popular 1970s television series "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and broke new ground as an independent career-woman in a leading role, died on Wednesday.

Today, beloved icon, Mary Tyler Moore, passed away at the age of 80 in the company of friends and her loving husband of over 33 years, Dr. S. Robert Levine," her rep Mara Buxbaum said in a statement. "A groundbreaking actress, producer, and passionate advocate for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Mary will be remembered as a fearless visionary who turned the world on with her smile."

Although her name was most frequently associated with television, Moore also acted in theater and films, winning a Best Actress Academy Award nomination for her role as an icy mother in 1980's "Ordinary People."

Off camera, she was known as a longtime animal rights champion and a spokesperson for diabetes issues after being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, a life-threatening illness, when she was 33.

Following that, there were reports her health had been deteriorating due to ongoing problems with diabetes, that she had lost weight and had become frail with severe mobility problems, but in 2011 and 2013 she returned to TV to appear twice on TV Land's "Hot in Cleveland."

In her two most famous television roles – as Mary Richards and as Dick Van Dyke's wife, Laura Petrie, in "The Dick Van Dyke Show" – Moore always appeared smiling, optimistic and perky...

Why Mary Tyler Moore Refused to Join the Feminist Movement
By GENEVIEVE WOOD Published on January 25, 2017

Mary Tyler Moore was not what most people would call a conservative. But what may surprise many television fans mourning her passing at age 80 Wednesday is that the actress also didn't consider herself a liberal.

In the 2013 PBS series Pioneers of Television: Funny Ladies, Moore explained that despite her TV character's image on The Mary Tyler Moore Show as a never-married working woman who became a feminist icon, she turned down Gloria Steinem's invitation to join the feminist movement.

"I believed, and still do, that women have a very major role to play as mothers," said Moore. "It's very necessary for them to be with their children. That's not what Gloria Steinem was saying. She was saying you can do everything and you owe it to yourself to have a career. I really didn't believe that."

As to electoral politics, Moore endorsed Jimmy Carter during his 1980 re-election campaign. But fast forward to 2008, when she said she would have done the same for Republican presidential nominee John McCain had he asked her to do so. (Memo to GOP: Missed opportunity.)

In an interview in 2009, Moore told Parade magazine, "When one looks at what's happened to television, there are so few shows that interest me. I do watch a lot of Fox News. I like Charles Krauthammer and Bill O'Reilly."

When asked if that meant she was a "right-winger," Moore replied, "Maybe more of a libertarian centrist."...

This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity (futility) of their mind, having the understanding darkened...
    (Ephesians 4:17-18)

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly...
    (Psalm 1)

I was an avid fan of Mary's show back in the day. I loved it. I don't remember the episode in the clip but I've been sitting here lol.

When I was a kid I would get the giggles in the most serious situations!

Hey, Look, You Can Buy Mary Tyler Moore's Apartment!

-The very first shot of the first episode of the "The Mary Tyler Moore Show"—the iconic 1970s sitcom that introduced America to a spunky and independent new breed of single career gal—is of thick snowflakes falling in front of a grand Queen Anne Victorian in Minneapolis, one that had been, apparently, cut up into apartments.

The next shot: Mary Richards and her pal Phyllis enter what would become her apartment: a large studio on the attic floor of the house, with a brown shag rug, a sunken living/sleeping space, a galley kitchen, and a wood-burning stove. The set designers faithfully re-created the Palladian windows from the actual house.

Her first-look (and very Mary) reaction: "Wow. Hey, it really is charming, isn't it?"

It's even more charming now. Also? It's for sale...

I wasn't a big fan of her TV shows, but she played that role in "Ordinary People" like a boss! A character one could literally hate. Anyone who says she wasn't much of an actress is just plain ignorant.
When your praise match your prayers, the answer will come.
