I wasn't a big fan of her TV shows, but she played that role in "Ordinary People" like a boss! A character one could literally hate. Anyone who says she wasn't much of an actress is just plain ignorant.
Not to go off on a tangent, but I felt the same way about Andy Griffith, who I mostly associated with "The Andy Griffith Show" and "Matlock".. but when I saw him in "A Face in the Crowd" I was (pleasantly) surprised he could play such an unlikable character!

Yes, he was awesome in that film.
Only a handful of TV stars did well in films, but were good in television series.

I think if you've ever seen how Mary acted in " The Death of Chuckles the Clown" you'd have no doubt about her comedic talent.
