    On Downton Abbey ? Hardly.

Sorry, I was responding about Indian Summer.

As to the gay man on Downton, yes he has done some very bad things through manipulation, however, this past season he allowed his inner emotional pain and suffering to slip out slightly. He suffers a hellish inner turmoil.

The main difference from earlier seasons is that the house has decided to tolerate his being gay meaning that they aren't going to fire him or report him to the police. This isn't unrealistic in terms of the times, that people were treated like that according to their being approved of based on other factors. I'm more appalled by the extremely positive way the later seasons are treating the heiress' flings. That is actually less realistic in terms of the times, that they are that brazen about that.

He was very evil in season 1 and 2, but at the end of season 2, he was certainly much more sympathetic. I think in season 3 he was not portrayed as evil at all. Season 4 is when I gave up on the series, catching wind of the abortion and whatnot. I've gotten now to where when random things are injected in to make some sort of political point, it just seems like conjecture and rather desperate.

I've tried watching a few of HBO's programming and I'm stunned at the gratuitous, graphic, sex, they throw into their shows. It's simply not necessary. I've stopped watching tons of stuff mid-season even if it's compelling or even excellent because of it.

I don't mind gay characters or even knowing that adults are having sex...... What I do mind is when it seems like an agenda is being advanced or that sex and other stuff is being injected just for the sake of it. I don't like graphic sex scenes because it's simply not necessary.

I actually like dark, gritty, stuff, so I'm not prudish or squeamish. I loved Luther, and that is rather dark and gritty too. And I love the Walking Dead. So "adult" stuff isn't bad, it's just the randomness of the graphic sex, the political, PC agenda stuff that I don't like. It's like people are attempting to manipulate me, and that's what I detest.

He also tried to manipulate one of the other male servants into having sex with him knowing that he most probably wasn't gay at all, just a bit gullible.

His blackmailing the new servant and using her for eavesdropping so he can frame the valet happens in season 4, from what I can tell. But I agree that things get more boring and speculative from about season 3. It's more like a soap opera by now.
