Netflix: Making A Murderer...POSSIBLE SPOILERS...but not in the first post :)

Anybody seen this? 10 part series on a particular crime and person. If you haven't, don't Google it or read anything about it. It's causing a big uproar right now across the country. Many people binge watching the whoe 10 hours. I don't have Netflix but a friend downloaded it for me and I downloaded it from them.

It's basically about a guy who spent 18 years in prison for a rape he didn't commit, and was suing the county/sheriff's department that seemed to have him targeted for the crime after he got out, then a woman was murdered and he was charged with the murder by the same authorities he was suing.

Anyway, a good watch. It deals a lot with the country legal system and what they did with these cases.

Yes...watched all of it. I think, after hearing all of the evidence that wasn't presented at the trial, that Avery probably committed the murder, but I also think the police planted evidence.

Yeah. I can't say for sure whether he is or not, but I don't think you could convict him beyond a shadow of reasonable doubt with what was presented about the police. And who knows about Brendan. I was really upset about him.

I completely agree! I was very upset watching the documentary, and I also agree that there was enough reasonable doubt for an acquittal. I have heard what wasn't presented in the documentary, but I also believe that was weak.

The police corruption in this case wreaks to high heaven. It was very disturbing to watch.

I guess since I'm a true crime fanatic, I'm very familiar with false confessions scenarios and how easy they are to concoct. It was clear to me that Brendan was not in any shape to be questioned without a lawyer present. The cops coached that whole thing, top to bottom.

Don't know if you know it or not, but a special about this is going to air on ID Channel on Jan 30. They are going to supposedly pour over all of the evidence, even the evidence not presented in the documentary, and interview all of the main players. I like Keith Morrisson (from Dateline NBC), as he always seems to be a fair guy and is always respectful to people of faith.....so I hope he's fair in this special.

I guess you know people signed a petition to get Obama to pardon Brenden and Steve, right? LOL....I was ready to sign it myself.

Yep. lol. But since it's a state crime he doesn't have any authority too.

I don't know if you remember this or not, I didn't, but then read it later, that the first vote by the jury was 7 for innocent, 3 guilty, 2 undecided. How do you go from that to guilty?

Thanks about ID. I had read about it being on but never could find a date. Just set the DVR.

Hey Catchy, check this theory out. It might be the best one I've heard of his innocence. I had to Google some names to remember who they all were.

From my limited experience, I would be surprised that a jury would change positions radically. I could see a couple of reasons to do so -- new facts or evidence OR the judge instructions -- eliminating/allowing certain reasoning or considerations that they may normally think reasonable.

The one juror who had to leave due to a family emergency explained it by saying that the verdict was a "compromise", since the jury was split. Don't recall which charges he wasn't found guilty of, but it was at least one. Of course the "biggie" was the murder charge, which he was found guilty of.

I read it and it does make the most sense. I too, have to look up some of the names.

I never thought the cops murdered anyone, but probably found her body and then tried to set up Avery.....but yeah, that is an excellent summary of how things probably went down.

'Making a Murderer:' Brendan Dassey's conviction overturned

(CNN)The conviction of Brendan Dassey, a Wisconsin man who appeared in the documentary "Making a Murderer," has been overturned by a federal judge in Milwaukee, according to court documents obtained by CNN.

Dassey was convicted in 2005 in the murder of photographer Teresa Haibach.

Prosecutors have 90 days to bring Dassey, now 26, to trial again or he will be released.

His uncle, Steven Avery, featured in "Making a Murderer," is in a Wisconsin prison also serving time for Halbach's murder.
