Thread: Old TV shows that you wanted to last longer

I really liked Jericho a lot as well!

(In fact, what happened is that the nuclear strike was actually carried out not by a foreign government nor by terrorists, but by a group of high-level U.S. government officials.)

The government has severed into two factions: the Allied States of America (ASA), controlling the west, and the surviving U.S. government controlling the east (with capital in Columbus Ohio, as Washington DC has been destroyed). Texas is newly independent.

The ASA enters Jericho first as saviors, then as oppressors. They have hired a private security firm to enforce their will over Jericho, and the people rebel. It is revealed to a few of the major characters that the leader of the ASA was actually one of those who organized the nuclear strike.

Unfortunately, the series ran for only 1.5 seasons.

    Fawlty Towers

Hard to believe they only made 12 episodes. I've watched them so many times

I wish the old Dick Van Dyke show had run another year or two.

I really like John Cleese.. but, this had a meanness about it that I came to not like. Years ago, we watched and loved it.. but I caught it again a few months back and couldn't even finish it. I do love the sign at the beginning though..

Finder was great fun. I miss it too. Is Awake the one where the guy is in parallel universes when he's asleep? The guy who was Malfoy in HP is in it?

    It was interesting.

I was upset with the way they wrapped it up for the fans. I mean, I'm glad they gave us closure, but really...a dream?! lame.

Two more recent ones a few seasons ago was 'Vegas' with Dennis Quaid and Michael Chiklis and 'The Golden Boy' with Theo James and Chi McBride. They both only lasted one season. May have been the same season.

Fawlty Towers is classic British comedy but it is very contemporary in relation to its times, the seventies. The hotel manager is supposed to be mean but there is an element of xenophobic superiority that shows itself in relation to poor Manuel (who is played by an englishman) and the Irish good-for-nothing carpenter. The American couple and the German tourists are portrayed more reasonably. The characters handle the situation with the gay chef rather reasonably and come out as less than homophobic for their times, so it goes both ways.

Col..yes, I'm quite familiar with the program, as I said, I love John Cleese.. I'm a MP fan too.

I just reached a point in my life where I don't find that type of meanness funny.

I actually like the wife character the best. And Prunella Scales is fabulous..

I think his wife matches him for meanness though she is more good natured towards others. I like mr. Fawlty better, he is more human besides his streak of meanness. And of course, more funny.
