Divorce
Gotcha!
Actually I was talking to someone this morning about OSAS and caught myself saying God does not divorce us because of our unfaithfulness, however the unfaithful will eventually divorce God.
I decided to look for a teaching or book or something and could not find anything....but isn't that the reality of 'losing salvation'?
I do not believe God says 'you are unfaithful so I divorce you' since Jesus and the new birth. I believe He remains faithful and constantly woos His beloved until His beloved completely walks away. That is why I do not believe anyone can be 'born again' multiple times.
Addendum...I also do not believe backsliding per se is losing salvation...I see it as a progression away from the relationship that if continued will eventually lead one to divorce...which IMHO is the reprobate...I also do not believe the reprobate is obvious to the religious eye.

So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

Just to confirm, OSAS as opposed to the "Preservation of the Saints", yes?

When God speaks of divorce it's in the context of Israel as a nation isn't it rather than individuals? We as individuals are God's children and you can't divorce your children / parents.

Well that is a good point....but we do enter covenant when we are saved...and He said He is married to the backslider...

Sorry to digress but the above comment is how false doctrine works and is a good example how Calvinism twists things.
1. Get a false teaching like OSAS
2. Give it a new name - "Preservation of the Saints"
3. Promote it as a exciting revelation from God
4. Twist scripture to make it fit
Hey presto you have a fantastic new false teaching proclaimed by many - Welcome to Reformed Doctrine
It's the emperor without any clothes and people cheer

As you'd be well aware, in 1610 the theological controversial propositions called the Five Articles of Remonstrance were put forward and one was the "Conditional preservation of the saints". This was based on a prior Article that said that "election (was) conditional upon faith in Christ, and that God elects to salvation those He knows beforehand will have faith in Him". In response to that the Council of Dort (1618) stated that because God has specifically chosen to save us based on no other reason than His own desires, our salvation is secure. [and, btw, salvation is evidenced by behavioural changes]
So, if you're to be able to truly say 'Get a false teaching like OSAS, Give it a new name - "Preservation of the Saints" ... Twist scripture to make it fit', you have to show where the concept of OSAS first arose, and where the Council of Dort got it wrong.
At Canons of Dort | Christian Reformed Church we have the text of the Canons (27 pages, 263 paragraphs, 12,655 words) which the 'original preface called a "judgment, in which both the true view, agreeing with God's Word, concerning the aforesaid five points of doctrine, is explained, and the false view, disagreeing with God's Word, is rejected."'.
OK. "Preservation of the Saints" comes from at least the time of Dort which says that in the document "the true view, agreeing with God's Word, concerning the aforesaid five points of doctrine, is explained, and the false view, disagreeing with God's Word, is rejected". As you're emphatically stating that the "Preservation of the Saints" is false and from twisted scripture then you'll be able to easily show where Dort got it wrong.
Please do.
