    Prosperity

So many debates about prosperity but the real issue is not prosperity for we see that both God and Satan bless their 'children'. Satan offered Jesus all the kingdoms of this world if He would bow....

Abraham understood that not all that glitters is gold..certainly he deserved the spoil of war...what preacher today would turn down a financial 'gift'...are there still some who know some 'gifts' are snares not rewards from God?

My pastor once said every open door is not God....

    Genesis 14:21-24King James Version (KJV)
21*And the king of Sodom said unto Abram, Give me the persons, and take the goods to thyself.
22*And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lift up mine hand unto the Lord, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth,
23*That I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich:
24*Save only that which the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men which went with me, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre; let them take their portion.

Anyone have a testimony of such an event where what appeared to be a blessing was not?

I believe in the blessing of prosperity. I have been praying for some time for God to bless with financial blessing. Then one day, recently, God poured out a huge blessing on us from an unexpected source. More than I ever dreamed.

God is faithful. We praise Him daily.

Needless to say, I immediately paid my tithes to my church
plus offerings. And now another source of blessing has opened up to us.

If He keeps on blessing and blessing, I don't know what I am going to do!

    Absolutely...good testimony.

Ever had a perceived blessing be a snare? That is what Abraham perceived....even though he could have justified receipt of the spoil as a blessing for 'faithfulness'..

I believe it was all about Abraham honoring and declaring God as the being the source of his wealth and/or his victory - and making that fact known.

The snare would have been taking any of the glory unto himself.
This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity (futility) of their mind, having the understanding darkened...
    (Ephesians 4:17-18)

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly...
    (Psalm 1)

Reinhard Bonnke was approached early on by a person who promised to finance his ministry with enormous assets. He prayed over it and decided that it was Satan because he would come to rely on that person instead of on God and when the assets eventually came to an end then he would be broke because he would no longer be relying on God in faith.

Some believers see any financial increase as always a blessing from God and down the track it ends in disaster
I remember two young couples ( when I was also a young a couple) chasing finances and it seemed to be going well at first but years later both ended in divorce and loss of finances

God does bless financially but everything must be balanced with prayer and knowing God's leading

it was more than that I think...I can't research now but did'nt Egypt send him away with a hefty financial blessing after he lied about Sarah? Or was that Issac....

Anyway as noted there are times when believers have been ensnared and later compromised....but as noted, all financial blessings or open doors are not God...

Are you sure there was a connection ? Did the chase for finances corrupt them in some way or were both that and the divorce perhaps symptoms of something deeper ?
