John 12:25 He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.

This is one of the basics of the gospel, eternal life - which is defined as knowing the one true God and Jesus Christ whom he sent - is given in exchange for hating one's life in this world.

Gal 2:18 For if I build again those things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor.

Some people think to themselves that when they have gained a new life in Him then they should rebuild that life that they gave up, just in a new form. With a new type of status. They aren't maintaining their death with Christ, the old man is being allowed to reerect himself in a narrower form.

19 For I through the law died to the law that I might live to God.

Rebuilding what you destroyed is not a matter of living to God.

20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

Remaining crucified with Christ is a matter of living to God. It is a matter of proving that you have counted the cost and that you are not looking back, things that Jesus told you would make you unworthy of the kingdom of God. Not that you will lose your salvation over that, I'm sure, but it is not what God intended for you.

So give it up.

I don't care what plans you have for the future, to raise the dead, empty every hospital and ward, to rearrange the stars in the sky in the name of Jesus. Just give it up. You are nothing more than a servant and you will never be anything more than a servant.
