Yep I read what you wrote.

Just as you quote a couple of verses here and say "Here the Old Testament clearly depicts God as a deceiver" (which it doesn't - the idolator is already deceived, God just turns it back on him as punishment) you then repeat "it is common in the Hebrew language to state a thing as done by the Lord which he only suffers or permits to be done" which none of the major English Bibles in the last 600 years or so has seen as true enough to pick up in their translations.

BTW IOM if you're going to say "it is common in the Hebrew language ..." then that means it isn't always the case and so the onus on the sayer would be to prove that this is one of those cases and show who it is that is doing the thing that God "suffers or permits".

I wouldn't speak with such ignorance if I were you:

Did you see the books I point to in my blog where more information can be sought concerning this? I know you did and I also know you have been to my web page. Yet you write what you write. I really don't understand this argumentative nature that you and others have. You don't read all that I have written yet you dare to make such claims. If I were you (and others who always likes to do this "gotcha" thing on forums) I would never attempt to make claims that someone hasn't proven anything until I have read all that they have written.

If I have no intentions of reading what they wrote then I wold keep my mouth (or keyboard) shut. Just some advice.

I've heard and read several of your sermons, books, and blogs. I can't even begin to tell you how much I've learned and been blessed by them. I mean things I learned about God's character I just didn't know or I never heard, that's helped me in my own ministry and sermons.

It p's taking me more time to get through them all due to me working on my projects and ministry, but be assured, I'll get through them, even if it's slowly. Keep up the good work brother!

Yes, and everything Jesus taught before the resurrection... according to many so called "grace" teachers these days.

The must be anointed of God right?... with their TV shows being on so many stations, their large churches, and the big bucks they have in their personal bank accounts... what they are teaching just has to be of the Lord.

Read your work again and have to agree with "How do we understand those passages in the Bible that make God appear to be the cause of things that detract from the truth that He is a God of love?".

So let me simplisticly say how I understand "And if the prophet be deceived when he hath spoken a thing, I the LORD have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand upon him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel" (Eze. 14:9)

We know God is good and what He created is good (6 times in Gen 1 God says what He did was good and of the completed work He said it was very good).
We know God is just, punishing evil (in Gen 3 after Adam sinned the sentence of death came upon him and he and Eve were removed from the garden).
We know that God's decreed punishments were in the main like for like (a murderer was executed (Num 35); a thief repays double thereby losing what he hoped to gain (Ex 22); or as some [most] people don't like, and eye for an eye (Ex 21))

So in Eze 14 we have a deceived person coming to a prophet (who should know better) and they try to deceive God trying to enquire of Him which they have no right to do. So what does our just God do? He punishes them (which they most certainly deserve) and He does it in his like-for-like way, He deceives them.

Does this detract from the truth that He is a God of love? No it enhances it, as it said in Proverbs and Hebrews God disciplines those He loves.

I was at a training course today and one of the conversations was on how undisciplined young people are today. They've no manners, they misbehave, they're self centered. And their parents won't do anything about it "cause they love them". Well sorry they don't love them. Not properly anyway.

A failing of the Church at the moment (much to its detriment and disgrace) is that instead of looking to the Bible and learning how things should be we try impose our societies views onto the Bible and we see God as coming up wanting, not ourselves. We see God doing things wrong, not ourselves.

    We're deceived and deluded.
